$Somewhere along the way the idea that success only meant something if I did it on my own, took root in me. Yet, I’ve known for years that the village is the way. I reflected on this quite a lot while I was in Bali— how I kept trying to “make it”, on my own. But doing it on my own has never felt right. It’s never sat well in my bones. It’s also not the truth— I am never alone. During my last 3 months on my 9 month journey— I was shown this was the “3rd trimester”— I started deeply craving community and village. I began feeling this honest ache to root and build something that MEANS something to me, and my people. I really reflected on the legacy I hope to leave behind. The story I want to write— the one I am so fortunate and blessed to be able to write. My ancestors showed me visions of what it means to restore the village. They showed me the significance of reclaiming the land, the ways of life, the wombs and lineages that were stripped bare. I was shown children being taken, and felt a fraction of the grief they endured. They asked me to not just remember, but to feel within my being the blessing it is to walk in such freedom— to live in a time and place where we are able to build again. I was told it’s a responsibility not to be taken lightly, but is also one that comes with so much joy and levity. We get to dream, speak, bleed, move, be, in ways our grandmothers grandmothers were never able to. And it’s a deep honour. What I keep being asked again and again is, how do we join together and exalt one another’s genius and gifts? How do we value each other beyond money and begin investing in vision with what we do have? What gifts am I honing now, that will feed my people later? Who am I building with, and what am I building for? A village is built brick by brick. Shovel full, by shovel full. In the uncomfortable conversations and the everyday moments we choose to stay. In the ways we show up, again and again. It is alive, and here for us now. It lives in our willingness.$
