Tour de Worcester 🥉

A good, fast race from the start. And ended with a bunch sprint. Happy to finish 3rd 🥉 and learned alot

Probably the flatest race route this year in Cape but Man O Man boys brought some heat.
Fantastic turnout on day throughout all Categories and thats a good sign for cycling.
Weather was absolutely amazing

@ferdibotha_velo showed exactly what he’s capable of after returning from Belgium, putting down a brilliant performance to finish 6th overall and 1st Junior across the line! 🇿🇦💪

@faraz_cycling was right on his wheel, taking 2nd place in the Junior category, while Gauteng’s own @henko_cycling rounded out the podium in 3rd! 🥈🥉

The battle for the jersey is heating up, and with every race, the leaderboard keeps changing! 🏆⚡

RACING IN BELGIUM

@ferdibotha_velo has been racing in Belgium since 14 July, once again representing KVC Meetjesland, after also riding for the club last year.

It's been a solid stint of racing, with several Top 10 and Top 20 finishes, including two 3rd places.

On Wednesday, Ferdi took the opportunity to watch the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen & Omloop van het Houtland before heading into his final race weekend in Belgium.

One last weekend!

Another dominating performance by @_henro_vd_walt_ at the #builditclassic moving him into the top position on the #32gi Junior men's log. @yahyaa.martin_ came in second place with @haydensalzwedel in third place.

Europe block of racing and training is done.

What an experience it has been! I learned so, so much,not only on the bike, but off the bike as well. The people I met and those who crossed my path along the way made this experience even more special, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity I had to race and train in Europe.

It definitely wasn’t always easy, and there were some tough days along the way, but we stuck through it, kept reminding ourselves why we were there and what the goal was. Every race, training session, challenge and experience taught me something and helped me grow as both a rider and a person.

A big thank you to the team, everyone who hosted me in their homes and made me feel welcome, and of course my teammates who quickly turned into great friends. Thank you to each and every one of you,you taught me so much, and we definitely made some amazing memories and had plenty of good times together!

Now the focus shifts to the final part of the season back home . Time to keep building, improving and working towards the next goals. The journey continues!

Pretty pleased to come away with some solid results in my first races of the block out in Belg with bits of bad luck here and there too. Going to try to keep up this momentum and hopefully carry it on for some UCI racing coming up.

Race Recap

The last few races didn’t go the way I hoped, but they gave me plenty of lessons, experience and reasons to keep pushing.

Torhout — Made the break with 3–4 other guys, but the heat got the better of me and I eventually ran out of power. Dropped back and unfortunately ended with a DNF.

Heestert— An unplanned race, but I went in with an open mind and the legs felt good. I was sitting well near the front until my chain dropped on the fastest part of the course. I chased for a few laps but couldn’t close the gap and was pulled.

Beernem— Full gas from the start. I got away with a teammate and eventually made the break, but a crash happened right in front of me. I had nowhere to go and ended up in a ditch, bringing my race to an early end.

Maldegem Interclub— Felt strong and confident in the big peloton and managed to stay near the front all race. Heavy rain made things tough, and with 2 km to go my chain came off after hitting a pothole. I chased back, but didn’t have enough left for the sprint and finished 80th.

Not the results I wanted, but that’s cycling,some days you win, some days you learn. I’m taking the positives: getting into breaks, attacking and showing that the legs are there. I know the form is there, and I know there’s more to come.

Veldegem | 21 July

First win in Europe. 🥇

It’s hard to put this feeling into words.

From the start, I felt good. The legs were there, the confidence was there, and I knew I had to race with courage. The pace was high from the gun, with attacks going all day, but with 14 laps to go I saw my opportunity and committed fully.

I attacked out of the final corner onto the finishing straight, stretched the bunch, and five riders came across. Soon after, three more bridged to us, making it an eight-man breakaway with one of my teammates. We worked hard to keep the gap, knowing every second counted.

With 1 km to go, I knew I had one chance. I attacked from the break and gave absolutely everything until the finish line. Looking back and seeing that the gap was enough,it’s a moment I’ll never forget.

My first victory in Europe. A dream that became reality.

Above all, all praise, honour, and glory belong to my Almighty God. Without His grace, strength, and guidance, none of this would have been possible. Every opportunity, every challenge, and every victory is because of Him. When my body wanted to give up, He gave me the strength to keep fighting. This win is for His glory.

A massive thank you to my team, my coaches, my friends, my family, and especially my mom and dad for always believing in me and supporting me through every high and low. I couldn’t do this without you.

This is only the beginning. We stay humble,keep working and keep trusting the process.

Next stop: Gistel. We go again.
