Yet The Great Life Continues is open now! until October 18th. i am sooo happy with this show, and to work again with @fade.0707 and @waru_guru , two artists i love so much and who build their worlds so purposefully and diligently. and getting to watch said worlds collide and coalesce has been kind of life-changing! i love the conversation they’re having in the exhibition, because life can be hard but it can also be beautiful and soft and filled with signs of good things to come! i love their rejection of any kind of hierarchy of material; they work with paper and fabric and will not apologise for it! it’s also really wonderful to see so many different ways of manipulating cloth: dye, paint, stitching, embroidering, beading, quilting. the responsibility and care to carry forward age-old techniques, often practiced by women and to keep these methods alive. i feel like encountering this show forces a slowing down. so many details and moments, you have to hang around to catch them all. please come and see it! 🦜

FF Projects invites you to the opening reception of Yet The Great Life Continues, a duo show featuring work by Agnes Waruguru and Fadekemi Ogunsanya, and the fifth presentation in its year-long residency at Alára, Lagos.

Opening 4-6pm on 26 September at Alára, Lagos.

This exhibition pairs two artist from opposite African coasts, each turning the textile traditions of their country into a record of an inner life.

Four days left to catch WHAT COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU SEE THE GARMENT? by @stephen.tayo, closing at ALÁRA on September 20.

The series, which follows members of the Aladura church across Lagos, Ibadan, Ado Ekiti, Ikere Ekiti and Benin Republic, reflects Tayo’s abiding interest in quotidian life, its textures and daily rituals. Families, children, and street life appear throughout– the city itself functioning as a secondary character, omnipresent in the background of each frame. Tayo studied philosophy at the University of Lagos, and something of that training lingers here. A sociological curiosity, an attentiveness to systems of belief and how they come to shape community, seems to underpin his eye throughout.

What Comes to Mind When You See the Garment? is showing until 20 September.

As part of the exhibition, we hosted a conversation exploring Tayo’s documentary photography and the stories, people and everyday rituals that shape his work.

His photographs offer an intimate view of Nigerian life, capturing the people, rituals and everyday moments that often go unnoticed. In this series, Tayo turns his lens towards devotees of the Aladura movement, bringing together faith, family and street life against the backdrop of Lagos.

Shot in black and white, the series takes a quieter, more observational approach to the city and its people, offering another way to see the familiar.

You can explore Stephen Tayo’s documentation of the Aladura movement, encounter Ruth Ige’s dreamlike blue worlds, discover emerging voices inspired by Nigerian skate and streetwear culture, or spend an afternoon gallery-hopping across Ikoyi and Victoria Island.
