It’s one thing to teach them to write, it’s another to show them how to use their powerful voices. So proud of our amazing students!

Last weekend the skies over Chicago burst with sunshine as we celebrated the release of ‘Streets of Bronzeville’—a series of neighbourhood walking tours written and recorded by five high school students created in partnership with Flowers for the Living Foundation.

AP staff from across the United States attended the launch (along with our CEO Mark Nihill all the way from Australia), to join everyone in celebrating these talented students.

Following a launch party, the attendees—which included the students, plus friends and family—bumped up their daily step count by walking Massiah’s tour as a group.

“For Chicagoans and for those who are visiting, I hope they see again. I hope they see these landmarks with youthful eyes. I think that’s the prize here. That makes it different from other neighborhood tours and experiences. We are getting a chance to see and hear through a youthful lens and voice, and that’s a special opportunity.” – @haroldgreen, Executive Director, @fftl_foundation

The app is available now on Google Play and the Apple Store. Bronzeville is just a quick 20-minute ride from downtown Chicago on the Green Line—whether you’ve been there before or are a first-time visitor, come and experience it through the eyes of youthful creativity.

One of my favorite aspects of working with youth is seeing them realize the possibilities. It’s all in the eyes.

I’m SO proud of all the amazing work we put in with our students for the Bronzeville Walking Tour project.

Their walking tours will launch this spring in the App Store and I can’t wait for everyone to engage with these brilliant works!

Thank you @artprocessors for bringing this vision to life and being true partners!

I’m SO proud of our scholars! It’s always hard learning something new, and keeping your confidence throughout the process, and they’ve been killing it!

Simultaneously, it’s hard teaching something new and making sure your pupils never feel out of step, or inadequate, so we’ve been killing it, too. 😉

One of the most beautiful things about showing the youth their voice through writing is watching them realize they can create a whole world where they don’t have to bend and break to fit into it; while also building the discipline it takes to be a world-builder. 🧠💪🏾

It’s always give and get.

What these students give and get from us.
What Bronzeville gives and gets from us.
What Chicago gives and gets from us.
What time gives and gets from us.

We’re halfway to our finished product and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve been giving and getting!
