I’m still trying to find the right words for what Ghana did to my heart. Serving at the Village of Hope and in the hospital showed me what it truly means to be the hands and feet of Jesus. I went thinking I was there to help, but the Lord used Ghana to shape me. This trip humbled me and stretched my faith, and I’m so grateful He chose to send me, and I’ll carry the people, lessons, and love from this place with me forever. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me.’” Isaiah 6:8

Being able to return to the VOH was such a blessing, and I am so grateful for these two trips that have changed me forever. United again by a common love, we served through medical care, nightly devos, VBS, new shoes for each child, new backpacks and school supplies, repainted the basketball court, and even put up new rims. Catching up with old friends, making new ones, and hearing that some kids from last year were adopted and moved to the U.S. warmed my heart. I was sad I didn’t get to see them, but so happy they have a chosen family to love on forever. The kids’ joy and the way this village shows Jesus’ love every day reminded me to be grateful for all I have and to live more like Jesus. It’s easy to forget and take what we have for granted when we have more than we need. Leaving was hard, especially the second time around, but it’s not goodbye, it’s an until we meet again. To the one sweet girl that asked me to adopt her, you will forever have a piece of my heart, and I so wish I could have brought you home with me. Also fun fact, my local Ghanaian name is Ewuraekua. Abigail also taught me how to say how are you and you are my friend in Twi. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this trip. We couldn’t have done it without your support and continuous prayers!!

I am forever grateful and forever changed by these people that we came into contact with in Ghana, Africa. The hospital workers and their drive to constantly provide for others. The orphanage parents and their devotion to all of the kids’ upbringings. The children and their joy expressed in the most beautiful ways- how could I not be changed by that? One of my biggest missions in life is to work as the hands and feet of the Lord wherever He may lead me. I pray that I can be molded to His will and be used to help souls in every corner of this earth however I can. And these past two weeks have been exactly what I’ve prayed for and more! After traveling well over 5,000 miles in less than two days, myself and a group of nursing students from Freed-Hardeman University arrived at The Village of Hope outside of Accra, Ghana. Through fundraising, hard work, and the grace of God, we were able to provide a new pair of shoes as well as a brand new backpack filled with school supplies to every child who called the Village home. As for the local hospital, we were able to present tons of brand new life-saving medical equipment including a defibrillator, fetal monitors, an EKG machine, crutches, walkers, vital signs monitor, surgical suction machine, etc. Our group also had the opportunity to work in the hospital in many different wards including the NICU, pediatrics, maternity, emergency room, and more as well as walk across the community offering vaccines, hygiene products, and taking vital signs! We painted a basketball court for the kids in The Village, had devotionals in the children’s homes every night, hosted a VBS in the local school, and so much more. Leaving the country was so difficult just because of the impact these individuals made on me. I hope and pray that I might live my life in similars ways to them that I may constantly exemplify Christ’s love and compassion. I hope to forever remember and hold on to these memories as a reminder of my blessings and the privilege I have of getting to travel to such places. It is my constant prayer that I get to dedicate my life to opportunities such as this and be a living, breathing tool of the Lord 💞🇬🇭🌍

FHU Freshmen Sign-Up for Donor Registry to Save Lives 🦁 ❤️ 🦴 FHU’s nursing program, in partnership with Earl Young’s Team, hosted a blood cancer donor drive Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, where 130 freshmen signed up to be a part of the donor registry. “That was 42% of all those involved, which is a phenomenal participation rate,” FHU Department of Nursing Chair Chris White said. “By adding to the registry, they have given people in need hope. At some point in the future, if matched, they can give the gift of life.” Read more at fhu.edu/news.
