Episodes 182 & 183: Sporting Fashion: Outdoor Girls 1800-1960, an interview with Christina Johnson and Kevin Jones In 1809, The British Encyclopedia advised the following of the aspirant ice-skater, "those who wish to be proficient, should begin at an early period of life, and should first endeavor to throw off fear which always attends the commencement of an apparently hazardous amusement." The Kyoto mannequin seen here has been ingeniously reworked to mimic the position of a fallen skater depicted in a fashion plate entitled La Chute, or The Fall, which was published in Modes et manières du jour circa 1799-1800. In 2013, Los Angeles-based designer Jeremy Scott took the reins at the irreverent Italian fashion brand founded by its namesake, Franco Moschino, and he's been living up to the late designer's sense of humor, whimsy, and glamour. Franco Moschino's last runway show, in October 1993, was a 10-year retrospective that ended with a stage filled with men, women, and children dressed in white and wearing AIDS ribbons.
