Unlucky in illness, lucky in books—chemo reignited my love of reading. I’m not sure how many books I read while in chemo (HELL) but it was a lot…7 a week maybe.

Today was my 4th annual surveillance #Colonoscopy and it was clean and clear! 💃 Plus I had a lovely nap! 😴 Only 1 more to go!
I am forever grateful for my local care team at #SpanishPeaksRegionalHealthCenter and my GI/Surgeon @RoboticSurgeon (Dr. Sandeep Vijan) for always taking such good care of me! #RuralHealthcare is a valuable resource communities really need! Remember that as you VOTE this NOV! 🌊

If you are 45 or over, experiencing any GI distress, mucus or blood, get your butt checked right away! Colonoscopy is still THE MOST EFFECTIVE screening method and far easier and cheaper than cancer treatment! #ColorectalCancer is the number one cancer killer of people under 40. It’s no longer an old person’s disease.

Spouse with chronic illness 🤝 spouse with stage 3c CRC and we still keep singing.

Last year Ryan went through chemotherapy & radiation and was told by his team this past spring that he had a clinical response to treatment. He graduated to the watch and wait protocol and his last check up at the end of August was still clear (thank goodness). He will continue with scans & sigmoidoscopy every 3 months. And we will continue to be grateful for his current good health and keep finding ways to dance through the uncertainty of the future.

And please, if you have any regular symptoms, especially blood in stool, do not assume it is normal. Advocate for a colonoscopy. @mashacima sharing her story, pushed Ryan to get a colonoscopy. Ryan allowing me to share his story has lead to 2 more friends getting diagnosed with CRC. My one friend with stage 4 is now NED and just finished treatment !!! May the ripple continue and lead to more lives being saved.

〰️ Intimacy as an ostomate isn’t just about feeling ready — it’s about finding the right time for you. 💜

〰️ After ostomy surgery, being intimate can bring new questions, emotions and worries. You might wonder when the best time is, whether your pouch is secure, or how to feel comfortable enough to let someone get close. And that’s okay.

〰️ There’s no perfect moment or one-size-fits-all answer. You might feel more confident when your pouch has been emptied, your routine is settled and you feel relaxed. For someone else, emotional connection and feeling safe with their partner might be what matters most.

〰️ Remember, intimacy doesn’t have to happen on anyone else’s schedule. You’re allowed to take your time, communicate your needs and discover what works for your body and your relationship.

〰️ Confidence comes from feeling comfortable, prepared and in control — not from getting everything perfect.

〰️ Today’s reflection: When do you feel most relaxed and confident in your body? Think about what helps you feel comfortable, whether that’s having a pouch routine that works for you, talking openly with your partner or simply knowing there’s no pressure to rush.

💜 Your ostomy doesn’t take away your right to intimacy, connection or pleasure. You deserve all three, on your own terms.
