POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
These clips are from a group chat with myself, Filippo and Steve, reflecting on our own experiences doing the Human Foundations course and what stood out for each of us.

The myofascial release taught in the @10weekonlineprogram and @fp.certified Human Foundations courses has been developed over thousands of hours. It’s derived from the gait cycle, targeting specific areas based on the deficiencies in how you move when you walk.

In my experience, that level of specificity was something I hadn’t come across in any other system. Even with the basic release work, the difference in how my body felt compared with myotherapy, stretching and other approaches I’d tried was noticeable from the beginning.

That release work primes your body for the corrective exercises. It gives you a chance to access connections you couldn’t feel before, and once you start training those connections, things really start coming together.

Filippo also shares what it felt like to connect his lats and glutes for the first time. He was dealing with pain back then, and that experience changed things for him.

Swipe through to hear our experiences and make sure to get on the next Human Foundations here in @fp_melbourne this coming Feb 2027 with @lou.ellery and myself. Simply click the link in the bio to apply.

Here’s a fly on the wall perspective of our pracs and clients working together. This is usually the time of year when people start backing off training.

The reality is that when you don’t feel like training is often when you need it most.

Everyone in this montage is showing up and putting in the work to improve their biomechanics, address limitations, and move better.

Our one-on-one sessions are as busy as ever, with people from all walks of life taking on the challenge of improving their movement and physical capacity.

Don’t ease off too early. Stay consistent, keep chipping away, and let the results compound. 💪

Over the past few months we’ve had more and more people walk through the doors after years of trying different approaches with little to no lasting change.

Hip pain.
Knee pain.
Scoliosis.
Chronic joint pain.
Strength loss.
Movement decline.
Years of physios, massage, chiro and conventional training.

A common theme we hear is that many people had started accepting deterioration as normal.

One thing Filippo consistently does well is help clients understand the mental framework needed to work through long term dysfunction and chronic pain patterns. Not just what to do, but why they’re doing it, what behaviours are reinforcing the issue, and what it actually takes to create lasting change.

His approach combines patience, structure and detailed movement analysis with education that helps people reconnect to their body and better understand how their habits, posture and movement patterns influence their health over time.

These reviews speak for themselves:
• Pain reduction after years of failed treatments
• Improved posture and movement quality
• Increased strength and physical confidence
• Returning to hiking, training and daily life with less limitation
• Long term changes people can actually feel and maintain

Appreciate the work you do @filippo_tommaso_busa

If you’ve been stuck in cycles of temporary relief and recurring pain, this may be the sign to start approaching your body differently.

Some of our dedicated clients working with their trainers, chipping away at what’s not working and sculpting something worthwhile bit by bit. Improving your mechanics has a knock-on effect on how you show up in all other arenas of life. This is the epitome of FP. Shout out to the clients putting in the work to improve their lives and everyone else’s as a result.

15 YEARS CHRONIC PAIN RESOLVED

Nick Started FP in late 2022, he spent 1 year training with @filippo_tommaso_busa 🫡 and almost 2 years training with @shane.delange He’d been dealing with 15 years of chronic back, neck and shoulder pain stemming from a disc herniation playing football at 22yo. All before pictures are from when he started with Filipo in Nov 2022. The last slides are from when he started with Shane in Jan 2024.

When he started with Filipo his pain levels were:
Back pain - 7/10 daily. 10/10 when acute
Neck pain - 8/10 daily. 10/10 when acute
Shoulder pain - 3/10 daily. 5/10 when acute
Acute flare ups almost every week that would last about a week. Repeating whenever he would train (regular weight lifting etc)

When he started with Shane:
Lower back pain - 2/10 daily. 3/10 when acute
Neck pain - 2/10 daily. 3/10 when acute
Shoulder pain - 2/10 no flare ups.
Flare ups much less frequent and would only last a day or two

Now:
Pain only when there is a flare up which is rare unless he’s gone surfing or had big days doing hard labour. Able to rectify immediately with self management.
Lower back pain - 1/10
Neck pain - 1/10
Shoulder pain - 1/10

Nick says >>>
I struggled with chronic back pain for 15 years after a football match that left me with a slipped disc in my L5/S1. I tried many different types of therapies and training methods over the years, but nothing seemed to give me lasting relief. I found Functional Patterns (FP) in late 2022 and it has completely transformed my life. The daily back, neck, and shoulder pains that plagued me for years are now almost nonexistent, and if I do experience any niggles or relapses they are very short lived, as I now have the tools to self manage my problems. Shane’s and Filipo’s attention to detail is unmatched, they ensure that every movement and exercise is executed with precision and efficiency. It’s amazing after all these years to be turning 40 and feeling the best I have since I was young after all but giving up on getting out of pain. FP gives me the tools to move my body how it should move, pain-free. Thanks Shane and Filipo and to the FP community for the work they do 👊🏻

POSTURE AND PAIN

Traditional therapies often dismiss the link between posture and pain mainly because they lack the tools to correct it. At Functional Patterns, we consistently see pain reduce or disappear as posture becomes more symmetrical. If someone says posture doesn’t matter, ask if they can actually change it.
