If the broken pieces were never evidence that you were broken…
then what have they been trying to show you?

Jamaica has a way of making you look at things differently.

Maybe it’s the water.
Maybe it’s the mountains.
Maybe it’s what happens when you finally get far enough away from the noise of your everyday life to hear yourself again.

But this time, I came to Jamaica thinking about broken things.

More specifically, the beauty that can be found in the broken pieces.

I was invited back to The Aligned Escape by Tiffany of @newnurseacademy to lead an intimate session around identity:

Remembering Who You’ve Always Been.

And there’s something deliciously contradictory about that.

Because we spend so much of our lives believing transformation requires us to become someone new.

More healed.
More successful.
More confident.
More disciplined.
More spiritual.
More whatever-the-hell-we-think-we’re-supposed-to-be.

But what if it doesn’t?

If you stopped treating every broken piece as something that needed to be fixed…
then what might you finally be able to see?

Maybe the woman you’ve been trying so hard to become has been underneath those pieces the entire time.

That was the conversation Jamaica kept bringing me back to.

Not becoming.
Remembering.

Because broken doesn’t always mean ruined.
Sometimes something has to crack for you to finally see what was underneath it.

Sometimes the identity you spent years carefully constructing has to become uncomfortable enough that you’re willing to question whether it was ever yours.

Sometimes what looks like falling apart is actually the moment you stop holding together a version of yourself that has expired.

And sometimes the broken pieces become the mosaic.
Not because we romanticize what hurt us.
Not because every painful experience “happened for a reason.”

But because we get to decide what the pieces become in our hands.

That distinction matters to me.
Especially now.
