POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Three days. One inaugural summit. A whole lot of people who believed in what we were building.

From the conversations around the fire to the connections made at the summit and the experiences shared outdoors, VORS brought together veterans, organizations, and industry leaders who showed up ready to connect, collaborate, and build.

And the people made it what it was.

To everyone who joined us in Park City, thank you for being part of year one.

Who did you connect with at VORS? Tag them below. We’d love to see those conversations continue.

The inaugural Veterans Outdoor Recreation Summit is officially in the books! Honestly, I’m still taking tall in.

What started as an idea became a room full of veterans, outdoor professionals, nonprofits, businesses, educators, advocates, and leaders who chose to show up and build something together. To every sponsor, exhibitor, participant, presenter, partner volunteer, and member of our team: Thank you!

You gave your time, your resources, your expertise your energy, and most importantly, your belief in what this could become. VORS was never meant to be just another event, it was built around a bigger idea: that veterans have an opportunity to move beyond participation in the outdoors and become the leaders, entrepreneurs, conservationists, educators, advocates, and industry professionals shaping its future.
And this weekend reinforced something I already believed: The answers are in the room, the connections are there, the experience is there, the ideas are there, the opportunities are there; ourjob is to connect the dots. That is how we move from individual programs to an ecosystem. That is how a conversation becomes a relationship, a relationship becomes a partnership, and a partnership creates an opportunity that changes someone’s next chapter.

I am incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the first VORS possible. But I also want to be clear. We are already working on next year. The inaugural summit was not the finish line, it was the starting point. We have a lot to learn a lot to improve, and an even bigger vision for where this community can go next.
Thank you for believing in VORS, Thank you for showing up, Thank you for helping build what comes next.

Teamwork DOES make the dream

There was something different about the conversations happening this week.

They weren’t surface level. They were honest.

Conversations about growth and resilience, but also business, strategy, partnerships, and how we can work differently and better across this space.

Ideas were challenged. Experiences were shared. Connections were made between people who might not have otherwise ended up in the same room.

That’s what we hoped would happen at VORS.

But maybe the most important part is what happens after everyone goes home.

CONNECT. COLLABORATE. BUILD.

And then?

CONTINUE.

Keep the relationships going. Keep talking about the hard things. Keep sharing ideas. Keep building together. Keep finding reasons to get outside.

The Summit was the gathering point. Not the finish line.

Great day of fishing yesterday, weather was perfect and the fish were biting! Brought home some bright coho with great red color meat. Thank you @nospeed_m for letting me tag along.

On October 3, we go outside.

And the organizations helping make that happen are a big part of why VORS exists in the first place.

These are the people creating real opportunities for veterans to hike, ride, climb, fish, and find their way into outdoor recreation.

For some veterans, this will be something they already love.

For others, it might be the first time they try it.

Either way, the goal is bigger than one day outside.

We want veterans leaving VORS knowing who they can call, where they can show up, and what opportunities already exist to keep getting outside.

Swipe through to meet the organizations and leaders taking us outside for Day 3.

Then get ready to choose your adventure.

SEVEN DAYS.

What started as an idea is about to become a room full of veterans, outdoor leaders, organizations, brands, and people who genuinely care about where this industry is going.

Next Thursday, we kick off the first Veterans Outdoor Recreation Summit in Park City, Utah.

And we’re almost sold out.

Pretty damn grateful to see this thing becoming real.

Connect. Collaborate. Build.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, now’s the time.

Who are we seeing in Park City? 👇

There’s a reason we’re starting VORS around a fire.

Some of the best conversations happen when there’s no stage, no microphone, and nowhere you need to be except right where you are.

That’s how we want the first Veterans Outdoor Recreation Summit to begin.

Day 1 starts at the Keetley Group Campsite at Jordanelle State Park, where we’ll gather around the fire from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on October 1.

Bring a chair. Bring some wood to throw on the fire.

And if you’re local, bring an extra chair for someone who traveled to Utah to be here. We’ve got veterans coming in from across the country, and we want everyone to have a place around the fire.

A big thank you to Fireside Pine for sponsoring the evening and helping us bring this piece of VORS to life.

If you’re coming to VORS, don’t make Day 2 your first day.

Get to Jordanelle. Pull up a chair. Meet the people you’re about to spend the next three days building with.

We’ll see you around the fire.

16 days from now, no one will see the hundreds of decisions it took to make VORS happen.

That’s the point.

Our Chief Operating Officer, Levi Brower, has been deep in the details making sure that when everyone arrives in Park City, they can focus on the experience, the people, and the mission.

We’re officially in the home stretch. 🏔️

Coming to VORS? Tell us where you’re coming from below. 👇

Then tag or send this to someone who should be in Park City with us October 1 through 3.

Let’s fill the room

Casey Montandon has been on every side of Outward Bound. Student. Instructor. Trainer. Staffer.

Twenty years in the outdoor industry, all of it building toward the belief that the outdoors builds people, not just resumes.

Now he’s Business Development Manager at Colorado Outward Bound School, where veteran expeditions run fully funded. Backpacking through Utah canyons. Whitewater through the Colorado Rockies. No cost, no gear required, just a crew and the wilderness.

Casey is speaking at the Veteran Outdoor Recreation Summit. His breakout: the path from veteran to outdoor educator, and what Outward Bound actually looks like from the inside.

The vision always starts somewhere.

For Erick, it started as an idea he could not put down. Veterans belong outside. Not as a program, not as a talking point, but as a room full of people who understand each other without having to explain.

Ideas like that do not survive on their own. They survive because people say yes before there is any proof it will work.

The partners who took the call. The ambassadors who shared it before there was anything to share. The sponsors who funded seats for veterans they will never meet. The friends and family who listened to the same plan a hundred times and kept believing in it.

The Veterans Outdoor Recreation Summit is October 1 through 3 in Park City, Utah, and it exists because of every one of you.
Registration closes September 16.
