Laura G. with a stunning 21 3/4” brown while being guided by Zach St. Amand over this past weekend. New River Report is up, click the website link on our Bio Page.

Hard to beat catching beautiful brown trout in fall foliage. Hardy Day this Saturday 10/24 from 11am-3pm. Nice weather this week, no rain, days in the mid 50’s to mid 60’s with cold nights. Main Hatches are tan/brown Caddis & small Blue Winged Olives (BWO). Small nymphs & Junk Flies are producing subsurface. Fall is definitely “streamer season” as brown trout get more aggressive due to the spawn. Spawning hasn’t truly kicked off yet, but I imagine it’ll get going sometime over the next week now that the weather is cooler. -Torrey. #upcountrysportfishing #farmingtonriver #dryflies #euronymphing #browntrout

FARIO Refined

The Guideline Fario has been a staple for dedicated trout anglers worldwide for a decade. Modern times bring the ability to refine and improve performance, building on an already great design. We didn’t set out to reinvent, as the original reel served as the blueprint for a new design we’re excited for you all to see.

The new Fario is purpose-built, lightweight, and designed around the needs of modern fly anglers. We carefully optimized its geometry with large arbor diameters and narrower spool widths to improve line handling and retrieval efficiency. All of this is combined with a fully sealed, smooth-running drag system and a stable, lightweight construction.

For the dedicated trout angler searching for the best, the new Fario is here. #itsallabouttheexperience

Warner Blunt & Company came out with Zach and me for two days—and these guys are sticks.

There’s a lot of fruitless time on the water right now, but when the small bite windows opened, we took advantage and capitalized with some pretty good fish.

Summer fishing is about knowing when and where to focus your efforts. We can show you how to dial in on migrational drift behavior, the dry-fly game, and even some outside-the-box approaches that will take fish when the standard stuff isn’t getting it done.

If you’re interested in working on your summer game, shoot us a message.

We’ve also got some interesting stuff getting ready to drop soon…

Stay cool and carry your thermometers.

Zach St. Amand’s son caught this beautiful Farmington River brown trout yesterday. New River Report is up, click the website link on our Bio page. Two pieces of good news: 1) after the heavy rain earlier this week flows are back down and cleared up, and 2) Trico’s are hatching in the mornings, at least as far upstream as the Campground already. The main event during the morning Trico hatches is the spinner fall, which is triggered by air temps of approximately 68°. Trico’s average a size 24. The water is still coming out of the dam nice & cold in the 40s, but it does warm as you go downstream, and the Still River is contributing some warm water right now, so use a thermometer to keep an eye on water temps. In the mornings, you’re generally fine as far downstream as New Hartford and maybe even Canton, but typically in the afternoons you’re going to have to move upstream to stay in cold water. Look for water under 68°, and preferably 65° or less. -Torrey.

Zach St. Amand‘s son Declan with a beauty of a brown trout caught on a dry fly. This can be a good time of year to target large trout with dry flies if you know what you’re doing. New River Report is up, click the website link on our Bio page. Things are moving in the right direction with a significantly cooler 10 day forecast, highs will average in the 70s with nice cool nights, even some normal rainfall. That combined with water coming out of the dam at an icy cold 46° is leading to some good fishing if you know what you’re doing. There is some very good dry fly action and nymph fishing at the moment. If you’re fishing dried, make sure you have a long 12’+ leader with a long:light tippet, and if you’re fishing nymphs, make sure you’re fishing some small ones in the size 18 to 22 range. You still wanna keep an eye on water temps because it’s July, but with the ice cold water coming out of the dam and milder weather starting Friday, the water will stay cooler and you’ll be able to fish further downstream. I’d start at your most downstream point and then work your way upstream as a day goes on, you can stay in ideal water temps all day long and have good fishing and not stress the trout out. Use your thermometers! -Torrey.
