Keep it down.” “Shh.” “Don’t make a scene.” Sound familiar? Growing up in Singapore, how many of us were taught that making noise when we’re frustrated or overwhelmed is wrong? We have been conditioned to swallow our stress, lock down our breath, and keep completely silent. However, hiding that sound just traps physical tension directly inside our bodies. I recently attended the exclusive media preview of the Vocal Breathwork Retreat with @petrinakow at the new Damai Spa & Fitness Centre at Grand Hyatt Singapore and it completely changed my perspective on emotional release and vocal health. The class is grounded heavily in the Fitzmaurice Voicework® method, which helps you to unlearn decades of vocal repression by treating sound as a natural, somatic extension of your breath. From deep floor bodywork to natural alignment, I learned that letting out a heavy sigh, a grunt, or a loud hum while trembling is exactly how our nervous system resets. The moment I finally gave myself permission to make noise, the heavy knot of tension in my shoulders completely vanished. If you are looking for somatic healing, public speaking confidence, or a premium wellness retreat in Singapore to release trapped trauma and stress, all the exact dates and details for the upcoming intake are below: 📍 Damai House, Damai Spa & Fitness Centre, Terrace Wing, [Grand Hyatt Singapore, 10 Scotts Rd, Singapore 228211) 🌿 4 weekly sequential Sunday sessions, starting from 4 October 2026, 2:30pm to 6:30pm (4 hours per session) 💰 SGD 1488 (Early bird at $1288!) To register interest or book your space for this October 2026 intake, contact Petrina or the Grand Hyatt Singapore wellness concierge directly via email at damai.sg@hyatt.com!

when doing Fitzmaurice Voicework, why is it that some people start laughing, some cry, while some lie on their yoga mats wondering if they’re broken because they’re not feeling any kind of emotional outburst? (me) in this clip, @petrinakow reflects on the emotions that can arise during voicework. the aim isn’t to force a release; as she puts it, the practice can be therapeutic, but it isn’t therapy. it’s an invitation to notice what’s happening and make room for change. the first time I did Fitzmaurice Voicework I was struck by how free my voice sounded within a short one-hour session, but it didn’t surprise me at all — we carry so much tension from the bad habits we’ve formed over the course of life, trying to manipulate our voices to fit what we’ve been told it should sound like. returning to @grandhyattsing for a second year after its inaugural run last year as the first time a hotel wellness facility was introducing Fitzmaurice Voicework classes as part of its holistic wellness offerings, Vocal Breathwork with Petrina Kow invites actors and professionals alike to explore greater freedom in their voices. The weekly series runs this October at Damai House, on 4, 11, 25 October, and 1 November. Limited trial slots are available this Sunday, 27 September, 3-5pm. Don’t think I share this story enough. But EVERYTIME I think about that moment, my heart squeezes a little because I’m just so grateful for how much richer my life is because of @fitzmauricevoicework. Not only because I was transformed that afternoon but that it continues to teach me as I continue to teach it to others. . The fundamental guiding principles of this work is steeped in humanity because it understands and works with breath. And in this noisy world of Artficial intelligence and how it’s going to make us ‘obsolete’ I think we forget about the one thing we share. And that is our breath. It’s the one thing we have that is wholly ours and present and never going to be replaced until we draw our last. . What does that have to do with our voice? Well EVERYTHING because Breathing is Meaning and if you’re intrigued I’ll leave you with another life changing bit of advice from Catherine; “follow your curiosity and your heart, I find it always leads you to where you need to go”. . Hope to see you next Sunday! #voiceteacher #fitzmauricevoicework #voicetraining #publicspeakingcoach #publicspeakingtraining
