Even when skies are moody the emotion of a wine region can get under your skin in ways that are unrivalled. Here at @bodegasbilbainas French winemakers fled the phylloxera epidemic, basque entrepreneurs rebuilt this bodega whose flagship brand @vinapomal also makes sparkling Rioja under the Lumen label served up to us in their atmospheric cellars where other truly excellent wines are made-this the Vicuana vineyard providing grapes for such. Meanwhile at @marquesdereinosa a larger operation gathers grapes from over 1,000 hectares grown by a multitude of families on the slopes of the Cidacos valley, making rich and expressive Garnacha and Tempranillo wines from this part of Rioja Oriental. Their shiitake mushrooms are also worth the visit alone. To a magnífico group of people on a similarly enchanting study trip. Muchas gracias @celebratethediversity_eu diversity for miles… #celebratethediversity #spanishwine #rioja #riojaoriental #viñapomal

Once upon a time I wrote a blog called Champagne on the Brain. It was a play on words to signify lucidity under the (gentle) influence of this wine style and was home to my thoughts on those I was privy to find. One I still love to this day (even if others are providing strong competition on the O.G). Recently I was invited to rediscover in some depth and comparison the wines of @champagnedeutz in the fine company of newly appointed importer @mmd_uk What was a joy to find myself acquainted with this time was a focus and precision I hadn’t acknowledged before, with wines coming from sites near to Ay and thus exhibiting prestige of being premier and grand cru focused (only two of the range are NV-which to our delight were poured out of magnum to ensure they still held attention amongst those of vintage proclaim). Founded in 1838 by William Deutz the current chef de cave is the also recently appointed Caroline Latrive whose own stamp on these wines we will see in a few years yet to come. With no oak and all malolatically engineered, what results are wines with freshness but elegance, drawing on the specific vineyard sites they are picked from 🍇 The rosés here call themselves ‘more winey’ in style, in the pursuit of pleasure, so says our consummate host who also says he sees the ‘cru’ in colours-Chouilly being a ‘dark blue’-‘la terre froid’. Perhaps my favourite of the line up we are privileged to try is the Blanc de Blancs 2019 from this specific area. The fruit is slightly tropical with a ripe pear or even mango vibe from a fantastic vintage. We try two vintages of the William Deutz-first made 1959, first released in 61. This wine is heavily weighted to Pinot noir and also to the village of Ay. 75% Pinot noir, 25% Chardonnay, its bottle has a subtle ‘Magnum effect’ in shape and is the most winey of all the cuvées made with an impressive minimum of 9yrs of age. It offers a depth and complexity appreciated by this fizzy-fandom crowd. If insta let me post more commentary I would. Merci bcp to all involved and thx to @akilondon for the fab sashimi ++ pairings & to @we_are_coco for the invitation ✨ #champagneonthebrain #champagne #champagnedeutz

The tent is up, and we're enjoying a glass of London Clay Brut NV here in the slightly overcast yet stunning Lake District. 🥂⛺ This English sparkling wine is produced in the sunny Crouch Valley in Essex and takes its name from the fossil-rich London Clay soils the vineyards are planted on. Rather than using the traditional bottle-fermented method, it's made using the Charmat method, keeping the wine bright, fruit-forward and wonderfully fresh. The blend is from the traditional trio of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. Crisp citrus, green apple and a gentle mineral edge, all balanced with soft, persistent bubbles. Refreshing, easy-drinking and just the thing after a day exploring the Lakes. Have you tried a Charmat-method English sparkling wine yet? Let us know in the comments. #EnglishWine #LondonClay #EssexWine #EnglishSparklingWine #WineLover #WineTime #CampingLife #LakeDistrict #Staycation #DrinkBritish #WineAdventure #SparklingWine #ThirtyFiftyWine #WineEducation

A privilege to visit the Lugana DOC area, spread over one lake,Garda, and two regions - Lombardy and Veneto to discover the five styles of wines made here from one grape, and meet some of the intrepid producers. At Cantina Zeni we were welcomed with Lugana DOC spumante made in The traditional method and put through the fun but harrowing test of identifying the perfumes of the Turbiana grape. What an experience! #luganadoc @luganawines @fizzonfriday @bellespick @rashnarayan_traveller @saradanese @eatsleep_winerepeat

🎼🔉🎧 When the World is not Enough with No Time to Die, 007 James Bond keeps calm and carry on with 🥂🍾 @champagne_bollinger❗️ At the recent @mentzendorff_co 2026 Portfolio Tasting in London, I was delighted to take a rapid flight across the above range: 1. Special Cuvée - simply delicious and effortlessly elegant 2. Rosé Magnum - chic & va-va-voom 3. PN TX20 - creamy 4. B16 - steely and clean and my favourites: 5. La Grande Année 2015 - still very young, musty and complex. I have a bottle so will keep. 6. La Grande Année Rosé 2015 - mysterious and complex like Vesper Lynd! I also have a bottle of Bollinger 1990 at home. When to drink up? #Bollinger #JamesBond #MI6 #Mentzendorff #champagne
