Road to 80: Currently a 19.3 handicap, which means I’m good enough to have a plan and bad enough to prove the plan never mattered.

Hole 4 - 320 Yards - Par 4

Shot 1: Dogleg left. Perfect. Let’s hit a little draw and work it around the corner.
Instead…Fade. FML. Still ended up around the edge of the fairway/rough, so not catastrophic. My driver at this point: Sometimes maybe good. Sometimes maybe shit.

Shot 2: Alright. We’re fine. Ball’s in the rough. Trees are definitely NOT in the way. But don’t worry. If there’s a will…There’s apparently a way to hit the ONE branch directly in front of you. Ball goes straight down. Excellent progress.

Shot 3: What’s better than one bad shot? Two. Caught this one THIN. But somehow it wasn’t a complete disaster and left me with a pretty straightforward chip. Task failed successfully.

Shot 4: And then… An ACTUAL golf shot. Soft little chip. Landed beautifully. Inside 10 feet. “NICE.” These are the shots that keep you coming back. Unfortunately, golf had one more lesson prepared.

Shot 5: Bogey putt. Line looked GREAT at first. Then the ball took a hard right turn… clearly I cannot read greens….Hello darkness, my old friend.

Shot 6: Tap-in double. Classic. We are who we thought we were…A bad golfer.

Road to 80 continues.

Road to 80: Currently a 19.3 handicap, which means I’m good enough to make birdie and bad enough to almost talk myself out of it.

Hole 2 — 480-yard Par 5 from the Whites.

Short Par 5. This is my moment….

Shot 1: Driver is still absolutely dialed. Smoked another one right down the middle. Golf is a funny game. The swing comes and goes, so when the driver is working, I gotta let my “opps” know… I’m back up.

Shot 2: Middle of the fairway. As @blackjack1193 said, "This is where I want to be!" 195 to the pin. 5-iron. Honestly didn’t think I had enough club to get there…Apparently I did. Caught a great bounce and watched it roll all the way across the green to the right fringe. That shot had me feeling like I’M HIM.

Shot 3: On in two. We have officially entered unfamiliar territory. Just lag it inside five feet. Don’t be a hero. Nice and easy. And…..I absolutely FROZE. Barely hit the ball. Left it sitting in the kitchen. What the hell is even that?

Shot 4: But this is America. And you know what America loves? A redemption story. I drained the next putt for BIRDIE. YOU LIKE THAT?!

Road to 80 continues.
