Painting @fleurbaby_ for the wonderful @josieannestewart ✨💞 I’ve followed Josie for years and she is such an inspiration. I thought I’d paint her gorgeous cheeky dog, Fleur! Fleur is a blind rescue bichon but don’t be fooled, her blindness doesn’t stop her from loving her best life ☺️ couldn’t resist painting her in her pink cowboy hat. Thank you for sharing her with us Josie! 😀

Been thinking about this quote from The Little Prince and how relevant it is to Fleur’s vision loss. She has so much empathy and really picks up on my emotions. I’m glad that despite not being able to see she can feel how loved she is and that she still wakes me up with a kiss every morning 🥰

I’ve read a few bits by Irène Némirovsky but I’ve yet to read Suite Française, which is probably her most popular novel these days. However it was her first novel, David Golder, written in 1929 that brought instant fame for Némirovsky.

To me, this short novel is a criticism of capitalism. David Golder is ruthlessly obsessed with making money and his wife and beloved daughter are extremely materialistic. It’s not a happy book, as we see Golder face many crises from money worries to troubling health. Money does not appear to bring anyone happiness, on the contrary it causes a lot of tension and a feeling of never being satisfied.

There’s not much of a plot but I enjoyed this, mainly for Némirovsky’s clever writing. Now I *really* need to get on with reading Suite Française!!
