Watercolor occupies a singular place in contemporary practice: immediate, luminous, and inherently responsive to the artist’s hand. Its transparency invites a different kind of thinking: one rooted in restraint, atmosphere, gesture, and the dialogue between control and chance. A wash cannot always be reclaimed. An edge can carry as much meaning as a line.

“Watercolor allows me to mix precise marks and stains, diffusing the pigments at random on paper. It opens up to an ideal spontaneity to mark time and memory. Water and paper allow you to open up to luck, as in life.”

A reminder that not everything beautiful needs to be planned.

Experimenting with compositions built on geometric grids, French artist Fleur Thesmar frees the viewer’s gaze from a singular viewpoint, invoking the true spatial dynamics of the natural world. Her explorations in geometry reveal a balance between order and organic flow, celebrating both precision and spontaneity.

“Watercolor allows to mix precise marks, and stains diffusing the pigments at random on paper,” says Fleur. “It opens up to an ideal spontaneity to mark time and memory. Water and paper allow you to open up to luck, as in life.”

Two sketches I did @bostonfigurecenter last week. 15 min poses using watercolor pencil (color and just black). The vibe there really contributes. Grateful to the model, BFAC, and my fellow artists! Wishing everyone a great weekend. #figuresketches #lifedrawing #bostonartist #somerville

✨ The show “Sincerely, [Your Name]” opened yesterday!
I’m honored to have my painting “Molecular Memory: G–C Bound” included in the exhibition.

So grateful to meet juror Dell @dellmhamilton and reconnect with many friends - it was a wonderful opening night!
Thank you Cambridge Art Association!

🧬 30 x 30 in | Acrylic & Mixed Media

This piece explores the architecture of genetic information through the bond between guanine (G) and cytosine (C), linked by three hydrogen bonds—represented as dotted lines connecting hexagonal forms.

The deep blue triangle anchors the work, evoking both stability and the unknown. A double-helix trim along its edge reinforces the DNA theme, while an S-shaped line flows through it like a path through genetic code.

Layers of newspaper fragments suggest how knowledge is passed on—connecting science with human expression.

🔬 A tribute to the beauty of the unseen, and the microscopic patterns that connect us all.
