Meet Alex, a gifted wordsmith from Derry, who harnesses the power of poetry to connect with others and make sense of his world.

As an autistic and neurodivergent poet, Alex shares his journey into poetry and highlights the lack of representation of platonic love in art spaces through his poem “Call me ROYGBIV because I’m visibly on the spectrum (or a love letter to being autistic).

Over the summer, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting with Alex Cregan at the lovely Botanic Gardens to discuss his love for poetry and capture some of his beautiful work on camera.

He shared this deeply moving, reflective, and inspiring piece titled “Call me ROYGBIV because I’m visibly on the spectrum (or a love letter to being autistic).”

It’s a poem that beautifully explores what it means to be autistic, to be truly seen, and to be valued for exactly who you are.

It was a joy to pair these wonderful summer memories with such a powerful message. I hope this resonates with you as much as it did with me. ❤️

Off the Page meets Bounce Festival 2026.

What a fabulous day/night. To see all of our wonderful writers words leap off the page was an honour.

ADQOM is hitting the road!

We're going to Letterkenny as a part of @lastafestival at @angrianantheatre. Lasta Festival is all about art by young people for young people, so come along and use your voice, be it for music, comedy, poetry, drama, or the non-verbal arts of dance and movement.

💡The Seamus Heaney Centre x Bounce Festival present a special version of Off The Page 💡

Four writers are supported by Darcey Youngman and Clare Duffy to prepare scripts in progress ahead of this public performance. This event will include rehearsed readings from new activism-themed writings by disabled and neurodivergent writers:

Isaac Quinn (Strabane): activism and theatre from a trans perspective
Johanna Gallagher (Belfast): immigration and activism
Andrew McNeill (Belfast): conflict and other social issues from a working-class perspective
Alex Cregan (Derry): intersectionality and queerness

With confirmed acting performances by Bernadette McKeating, Jack Elmore, Rose Coogan and writer/actors Andrew McNeill and Johanna Gallagher.

Off The Page is a yearly programme ran by playwright/ dramaturg Darcey Youngman. Off The Page develops script and script writers with dramamturgy, and collaboration with actors. Off The Page will return in January 2027.

We are proud to be working with University of Atypical and Bounce Festival to bring a special version of Off The Page, and can't wait to showcase our writers work.

I will be doing my best to fill the big shoes left by the almighty Marty McKenna @exquestation as the new host of the “Invited to the Mic” open mic at @theamericanbarsailortown

Extremely grateful for this opportunity and I simply cannot wait to have the craic with you all. Sharing poetry and telling stories are corner stones of Irish culture and it is going to be such a pleasure to host evenings that preserve this.
