Ban the Pilates courses selling 2 days of repertoire as complete Pilates eduction 🗑️

Hot take: if you can name every exercise in the repertoire but can’t confidently adapt a movement, recognise poor execution, manage a room or explain WHY you’re programming something, there’s a problem.

And it’s not necessarily with the instructor.

It’s with an industry that too often prioritises teaching exercises over teaching people how to teach.

Repertoire matters. Of course it does.

But without an understanding of anatomy, movement principles, effective cueing, intelligent sequencing and real-time decision-making, it’s just a collection of exercises.

We’re producing qualified instructors who can memorise movements but don’t always feel equipped to lead a class.

And I think we should be questioning that.

A certificate should represent competence, not just course completion.

That’s why I’m building METHD differently.

Because the industry doesn’t need more instructors who know more exercises.

It needs instructors who know how to teach.

Agree or disagree? I’d genuinely love to hear from instructors and educators on this one. 👇

You wouldn’t throw random exercises together and call it a class plan. So why are you doing exactly that with your playlist?

For us, music is part of your programming. Not an afterthought.

The tempo, energy and progression of your playlist should complement the intention of your session.

Your music should support the pace of movement, influence the energy in the room and help create a seamless experience from start to finish.

Don’t get it twisted, that doesn’t mean every movement needs to be choreographed to a beat.

It means being intentional.

Because the difference between a good class and one people can’t wait to rebook is often in the details.

The exercises are what you teach. The experience is what people remember ⚡️

So, instructors — are you planning your playlists or pressing shuffle five minutes before class? 👀

Your Pilates qualification taught you the exercises. But did it teach you how to actually teach?

Because knowing a repertoire and knowing how to deliver an exceptional class are two very different things.

You can memorise every exercise, understand the anatomy and write the sickest class plan.

But none of that guarantees you can command a room, read the bodies in front of you, adapt under pressure or create an experience people want to come back to.

That’s the difference between being qualified and being a sought-after instructor.

The instructors people remember and rebook aren’t necessarily the ones with the biggest repertoire or the fanciest choreography.

They’re the ones who understand WHY they’re teaching what they’re teaching, WHO they’re teaching it to and HOW to deliver it with confidence.

That’s where the real work begins.

And that’s exactly what we’re here to develop at METHD.

Tell me, instructors — what’s one thing you wish your qualification had prepared you for? 👇

High standards. Questionable behind-the-scenes behaviour.

I promise I know what I’m talking about. Getting the words out is another story.

Please tell me I’m not the only one.

Welcome to the less polished side of METHD. 🤝

What actually impresses a studio owner during an instructor audition? 👀

Spoiler: it’s not how many exercises you know or how complicated your sequences are

I recently auditioned an instructor for @flo__pilates and there were three things that really stood out to me:

⚡️ She understood the WHY behind every exercise. Her programming was intentional. Every movement had a purpose, rather than being another exercise added to fill 45 minutes

⚡️ She prioritised safety before movement. Clear, proactive instruction meant clients knew exactly what they were doing before they started doing it

⚡️ She taught the body in front of her. She wasn’t simply delivering a rehearsed class plan. She was observing, assessing and responding to how the body was moving

And THAT is the difference between knowing a repertoire and knowing how to teach.

You can memorise hundreds of exercises, but if you can’t observe, adapt and explain the intention behind what you’re teaching, you’re missing some of the most important skills of an instructor.

Good instructors deliver exercises. Exceptional instructors teach people.

This is exactly the standard we’re passionate about developing at METHD.

Save this for your next instructor audition ⚡️

You passed your Pilates instructor training. You got the certificate. So why do you still feel like you don’t know what you’re doing?

Because knowing the repertoire and knowing how to teach are two very different things.

Yet too many instructors leave their certification knowing what to teach, without truly understanding how, why or when to teach it.

And that’s where the overwhelm begins.

At METHD., we believe education should develop your ability to think critically, make informed decisions and teach with intention, not simply reproduce a sequence of exercises.

If you’ve been questioning your ability since qualifying, don’t worry… the foolproof METHD. you’re after is waiting for you ⚡️

There is room for all of us ⚡️

Someone else’s success doesn’t take away from your own potential.

In an industry built around helping people become stronger, more confident and more capable, we should be extending that same energy to one another.

Celebrate other instructors. Share knowledge. Give credit. Support their growth.

Because another instructor doing well isn’t your competition. It’s proof of what’s possible.

At METHD., we believe in raising the standard, not competing for the spotlight.

Better instructors. Stronger community. Higher standards.

That’s the METHD. way.

Have you qualified as a Pilates instructor, but still feel like you’re figuring it all out?

⚡️ Do you spend hours planning classes?
⚡️ Second-guess your sequencing?
⚡️ Feel overwhelmed by the thought of adapting exercises for different bodies and abilities?

Or maybe you’ve got the qualification, but you’re still wondering how to become the kind of instructor people remember, trust and rebook.

At METHD., we believe certification is just the beginning.

We’re here to bridge the gap between qualification and confidence. To help you develop your own teaching style, refine your skills and become an instructor who delivers with intention.

Less second-guessing. More understanding.

This is where your teaching evolves.
