Ultra Running

Ultra running sits within a booming general running culture in the UK.

Globally, ultramarathon participation has reportedly increased by 345% over the past decade.

This has coincided with an increase in Trail running, with Ultras not just about distance (anything over a marathon), but also elevation & therefore when you look to qualify for events like @utmbworldseries Europe’s Premier Annual Ultra Series different prequalify races carry different points based on how extreme the course is.

Ultras are a different kind of running experience therefore & present different challenges for those partaking. Walking, Walk-Jog, Jog-Walk, Jog-Run it’s all allowed when the challenges are as much mental as they are physical.

Thank you therefore to @antoniahoylejournalist for the opportunity to be interviewed for her article this week @thetimes on Ultra Running featuring alongside @flopenny Founder of @flowphysiolondon

Hopefully it helps explain some of the unique elements of ultras & the things to be aware of when preparing for one.

They can be very rewarding pursuits, but also carry a level of danger unfortunately highlighted by the death of David Parrish, an experienced ultrarunner, who died attempting to break the 234-mile Cape Wrath Trail record through the Highlands of Scotland which promoted the article.

A heartfelt thank you to @flopenny! The opportunity to work with you for the past two years @flowphysiolondon @until_community Marylebone has been such a pleasure.
As a self-employed physio working mainly on my own it is so valuable to work as part of a team and have support and joint learning, even if only one day a week!
You have such lovely clients who I’m very grateful to have been able to work with.
I look forwards to staying connected (firstly at our Christmas meal next week!) and continuing to cheer each other on in our work.
Last thank you to @georgebownes for introducing us, such a good people connector George!
Now on to focus on an extra day of Create Physio and Pilates!

What makes @until_community special has never just been the spaces — it’s the people inside them.

Every conversation, every collab, every connection.

And soon, we’ll have another home to grow it all even further. 🤍
