POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We're still buzzing from the incredible turnout at our latest Mapping Queens: Building Artist-Run Spaces! 🎨✨What an inspiring evening bringing together artists, creatives, and cultural leaders from across the borough!

Our panelists shared their stories on building organizations from the ground up, the challenges along the way, and the reward of seeing an idea come to life. Each saw a need in their community and took action, creating spaces and opportunities for artists to gather, create, and truly thrive.

It's inspiring to see how an idea, fueled by passion, dedication, and resilience, can grow into something that has such a meaningful impact on our communities.

A huge thank you to our panelists:
🖌️ Stephanie S. Lee — @garageartcenter
🖼️ Meghana Karnik — @flux_factory
🎭 Naomi Sturm — @losherederosnyc

Special shoutout to our moderators and Queens-based artists, @nataliebedon_ and @amaraidk, and to our wonderful hosts at @flux_factory for welcoming us into their space and giving us a special look at their current exhibition, A Thousand Answers (Don't miss the exhibition's closing event this Sunday!)

At its heart, Mapping Queens is about sparking inspiration, connection, and creativity across our borough. By bringing together the people doing this incredible work and creating opportunities to learn from their experiences, we hope to inspire new ideas, collaborations, and possibilities for our creative community.

Every conversation brings something new, and we can't wait to keep building on them together! ✨

Save the date for our next Mapping Queens event on November 19! 🗓️

What becomes possible when artists create the spaces they wish existed? 🎨💡

Across Queens, artists are building more than their own creative practices. They’re founding organizations, shaping platforms for collaboration, and creating spaces where other artists can gather, experiment, and grow. Through artist-run initiatives, they’re expanding what support, connection, and creative community can look like in our borough.

Join us for our next Mapping Queens: Building Artist-Run Spaces featuring:

🖌️ Stephanie S. Lee — @garageartcenter
🖼️ Meghana Karnik — @flux_factory
🎭 Naomi Sturm — @losherederosnyc

Together, they’ll share what inspired them to build spaces for fellow artists, the realities behind sustaining artist-led work, and how these creative spaces are helping shape the future of arts and culture in Queens.

🎙️ Moderated by @nataliebedon_ , Project Manager of the Queens Cultural Mapping Initiative, and co-moderated by special guest @amara.idk, Queens-based artist, project collaborator, and current Manager of Public Programs & Events at the Central Park Conservancy.
