When I was diagnosed with cancer, my mind sharpened and time compressed. Four unfiltered thoughts arrived in quick succession:

I want to see my parents.
How much time do I have with Scott and Floyd?
If it’s bad, I’m refusing treatment and traveling in the van.
And: I’m going to Patagonia.

So when I came across The Fly Again Foundation and was asked about my “Dream Vacation,” the images were immediate: Patagonia
Torres del Paine National Park
The W Trek.

The opportunity to hike the W Trek, one of the most sought-after treks in the world, just over a year after completing cancer treatment, feels like the ultimate “fuck you” to cancer, a refusal to let fear decide the limits of my life.

Truthfully, I haven’t had a chance to fully celebrate my survivorship. Life kept moving, so has happened in fragments.

Patagonia is the kind of place that strips life down to its simplest, most awe-inspiring elements, and after everything we’ve endured, this was our step forward into the next chapter of our lives.

This was the trip of a lifetime and it would have never been possible without the strength, passion and resilience of Lisa Marzullo, the incredible, benovelent team at @flyagainfoundation including Lisa’s husband, David, her parents, and her closest friend, Charlotte.

Thanks to @myvacationlady @ecocamp and @cascadaexpediciones this trip was beyond anything we could have ever experienced on our own.

Patagonia with its vast remoteness, challenging elements, rugged terrain, and untamed beauty will forever be my place of restoration.💙
