Brown Trout Season Open ⬇️

Today is Mother’s Day in the UK and Ireland, but this is a celebration of all mothers everywhere. Save it, share it, or send it to your mum as a thank you for everything she has done and all that she is.

It’s also the start of Brown trout season at @thearundell
Clear rivers, green fields and the English countryside are waking up.

Everything you see here was filmed on the @thearundellfishing waters on a single morning in early May, a reminder of how powerful a few hours in nature can be.

If you’re a mother who has made it this far… perhaps it’s time to book your father, mother, brother, son, daughter or more importantly yourself - a day on the river to reconnect with Mother Nature.

Nothing against Pike 🐊

The problem with targeting one specific fish…

Is that when the wrong species keeps showing up, you lose any love for that fish, which on another day you’d be super stoked to catch.

We were deep in the Finnish lake systems chasing the giant brown trout that move through the narrow channels between the lakes.

Three full days of fishing and all we had landed were small trout (and plenty of Pike). Although the big browns were around, our guide @ville_lehtomaki had landed a good one on the first night, and we had seen giants feeding over the course of the trip, we just couldn’t get one to come tight.

By the third night we were getting pretty desperate.

At 3am the Nordic summer light was just enough to see the current pushing through the channel. No wind. No birds. Just mosquitoes and silence.

A fish had been moving behind a rock at the edge of the seam all morning.

Finally a streamer swings through the pocket…

And it gets absolutely hammered.

For a split second it felt like the moment we’d been waiting three days for.

Then the head surfaced.

Long snout.
Teeth.

“F*cking pike.”

Two seconds later it bit straight through the leader and was gone.

Great fish.

Just not the one we spent three days looking for.

Every angler knows the pain of the wrong species eating first.

What’s the most painful “wrong fish” you’ve ever hooked while targeting something else?

Today is the gift. Be present 🎁

Some days the river just makes sense. First cast trout, small but perfect.

Mostly saltwater guys, just trying to figure out fly fishing. Follow along to watch the progress, the fails, and the small and large victories along the way💪

Training never stops!

A couple of weeks ago, we dedicated an entire day to perfecting the fly casting with the experts of the Fly Casting Lab at the @domainedecoyolles_paris , that art which makes fly fishing so unique. As in every sport, training holds an essential place: it builds skill, movement, and confidence.

On the grass, far from the river yet closer to precision, we explored casting in all its forms. A deep dive, both physical and technical, where theory and practice intertwine to refine every motion.

A day marked by sharing, focus, and the pure pleasure of a well-executed cast, all with our upcoming fishing trips in sight, prepared with seriousness and passion.

Magic Shoes ✨🥾

Some boots just get you from A to B. Wading boots get you to the places no road can touch. They grip when the current wants to take you, hold steady on slick rock, and keep you moving long after common sense and your partner have asked you to call it a day.

They’re scratched, scarred, and stained by miles of water - proof you’ve been where the fishing’s real. Every mark is a memory. The only question is where they’ll take you next.

Love my set of @korkersfootwear that have seen me through this summer and many before this one!

• @thearundell in Devon, UK
• @ville_lehtomaki & @learntheland out in Finland
• River Tweed, Coldstream, Scotland

And the Summers not finished..
