I told my story over and over at New York Fashion Week. And each time I did, someone trusted me with a story of their own. That exchange between fragrance, memory, and truth is what these twenty slides hold.

There are three things I love most about this work: composing a story into fragrance, telling that story, and writing the personal note that accompanies the fragrance into someone’s life. At New York Fashion Week, I was able to do all three, again and again.

There were deeply intimate moments. Women shared their experiences with intimate partner violence. Other conversations held milestone birthdays, anniversaries, retirement, and new beginnings. Men and women told me where they had been, what they had survived, and what they were celebrating. I shared my own stories, and fragrance allowed us to recognize something in one another.

But, the fragrance.

I must admit, I was anxious. Would the collection be received? Would people feel what I had composed?

Men and women wear fragrance to smell beautiful, create memories, mark meaningful moments, and feel empowered. Had I accomplished that with my collection?

Yes.

The fragrances were received. The stories resonated. Bottles were chosen and carried home. That yes means everything to a nose. To a composer of fragrance.

I did not leave Atlanta knowing I belonged at New York Fashion Week. I left having heard GOD clearly: “You are not going. You are arriving.” There is a difference.

I did not yet understand what that arrival would mean.

The meaning of arrival was revealed one person at a time. Through each encounter, MON ANGE ÉLEVÉ, ANOINTED, I LOVE MY LOCS, or BLACK NEGRA NOIRE passed from my hands into a life that would carry its story forward.

Through each one, GOD confirmed what I had traveled to New York still needing to know:

I am here.

This is my work.

This is my calling.

To every person who purchased, listened, prayed, encouraged, shared, connected, carried, and believed, thank you. This moment was possible because of you.

And the story continues.
