KLEINES BUDGET. SEIDENWEICHER LAUF.

GOOD MORNING – ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER RISE. 🍂

Golden leaves, cool water and autumn dry-fly fishing at its finest.

Today’s well-balanced setup:

Scott GT
Fly Lab Acid reel
Scientific Anglers Mastery VPT
TroutHunter 6X tippet – 0.128 mm
A small CDC dry fly

The VPT allows an extremely delicate presentation, while the Scott GT cushions the fine tippet during the fight.

And I have to admit: the Fly Lab Acid really surprised me. A small-budget reel with a finely adjustable drag that starts incredibly smoothly.

Despite the fine setup, the grayling was brought to the net quickly – and swam away full of strength.

Fine fishing does not have to mean a long fight. 🐟

Devin Olsen is known for tying purpose-built flies that are fine-tuned for specific fishing situations and his Front End Loader is no different. He uses FEL framework to imitate both caddis and late season flying ants. @tactical_flyfisher’s Front End Loader is a dry fly recipe worth learning and you can find a deep dive on Devin’s Signature dry fly platform in the Substack article linked in bio, along with a tying tutorial on our YouTube. Many thanks to @flylab.fish for highlighting this killer pattern!

Wer mich kennt, weiß, was ich meine.

Danach folgt mein ehrliches Praxisfazit.

In my most recent guest piece with my pals at @flylab.fish I interviewed my friend and teacher, John Juracek, and shared a bit about what makes him tick.

We discussed sight fishing, photography, rise forms, being a lifelong student, how he defines mastery, a few injuries, adaption, and yes, the parallels between fly fishing and pickleball.

Comment JOHN or send me a DM for the link to the full essay.
