A view I haven’t thought to try at SBA prior to this past weeekend. It was fun having my fellow professor @geoff.tsai cycle by while I was staking out the departures here. #alaskaairlines #embraer #horizonair #N658QX #E175LR

So there I was, minding my own business, trying to photograph a guy loading up his powder-blue-striped Cessna 172. When out of NOWHERE comes this Horizon retrojet in its very 1980s livery and bombs the whole composition. Sigh.

There must have been some sort of high-level tech confab in Santa Barbara earlier this week. Sunday saw a Delta 757 charter from Newark (see a previous post I made), accompanied by an unusually high volume of business jet traffic at SBA, including several Gulfstreams known to shuttle @google executives and founders around.

Things were busy enough that the ATIS was advising pilots that aircraft without reservations at one of the FBOs would be turned away, and 100LL fuel sales were suspended.

Here’s a Sun Country charter departing yesterday afternoon, taking people back to Newark.

Santa Barbara has been named the fifth “Best Small City” in the U.S. by @condenasttraveller’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards.

There are endless reasons to visit The American Riviera®, but in honor of this recognition, here are five to get you started:

1. Incredible coastline: Spend the day on the sand, explore the waterfront or catch a sunset (or sunrise) along the Pacific.

2. Food worth traveling for: From fresh seafood and farm-to-table favorites to Michelin-recognized restaurants and local gems, there’s plenty to taste.

3. Arts, culture and architecture: From red-tile rooftops and historic landmarks to museums, galleries, gardens and the creative energy of local artists, Santa Barbara’s arts and culture are woven into every corner.

4. Outdoor adventures: Hike the mountains, bike along the coast, kayak the harbor or get out on the water for an unforgettable whale-watching experience.

5. World-class wine tasting: Discover intimate tasting rooms, urban wine bars and wine tasting by the sea, where you can sample wines produced by world-class wineries just beyond the city.

Five reasons to visit, and plenty more once you get here. #SeeSB

File this under “things one doesn’t see every day at the Santa Barbara Airport.” A Delta 757 on short approach to runway 7 in harsh midday light. She came in from Newark and promptly departed for LAX. And I was lucky to make it into position after a last minute change of runways. 😬 #DeltaAirlines #Boeing757 #N652DL #SantaBarbaraAirport

Flying through the beautiful Santa Barbara Airport is as pleasant as commercial travel gets. But what if you get to the gate and realize too late that you've forgotten something to read?!?Thanks to Santa Barbara News & Gifts, you have nothing to fear! Pick up a copy of Montecito: A Novel, the inspired-by-a-true-story novel that has everyone talking!
