POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I was tagged by my buddy @gilioncdumas to show #tenonmytbr but I’ll just show you all the books I have with me, which comes to somewhat more than 10 (no, I didn’t count. That’s why I have too many books in my collection! 😄)

When I packed up my house and headed across the country to look for a new home, wasn’t sure how long it would take. I estimated three months of the outside, mostly because I figured it would be getting cold, and I would start to feel desperate for a warm fireplace. As it turns out, it will be a little less than that if all goes well with the home buying process.

In America that means you put an offer on a house (in this current seller’s market, that means well above what its listed for according to its estimated worth). Then if the offer is accepted, you negotiate with the sellers if an inspection turns up anything that needs to be repaired, such as plumbing, or the roof. Long story short, nothing is for certain, and it usually takes about a month.

 I tend to be distracted reader, so I picked some of my thinnest books — ones that look most intriguing — and still I’ve only gotten to two of them, whilst buying more along the way. 🫣 But for all the times I took books out of a little free library and forgot to leave any, I’m leaving books along the way now, like a true book fairy. 🧚‍♂️

What are the top 10 on your #tbr ?

 BTdubbs: I’m a @redvinescandy girl and I have not seen a Red Vine since I came to the East Coast. What’s up with that? Please send Red Vines!!!

After seeing the post by @barbaras.book.obsession featuring titles relating to women, I looked at my shelves and realized not only do I have a lot of books with “Ladies”, etc. in the titles, but I have a many books with “Woman” or “Women” in the title. Not shown here would be one of my very favorites, “The Woman in White” by Willie Collins (it’s lurking around here somewhere.🕵️)

I also noticed that I managed to have two covers with naked women on them — “Fanny Hill” and “The Foolish Gentlewoman”. (That was totally unintentional. Insta doesn’t need any more naked ladies, am I right? 😅)

Can you guesstimate how many books with titles relating to women you might have on your shelves? Run and check, 🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️then get back to me, OK?

It's been awhile since I joined in, but now that I have two working legs again, I perused my shelves to join @barbaras.book.obsession for the February Scavenger Hunt created by @nothing.beats.a.good.book . You need:

♥️ a form of communication on the cover: I had chosen News from Thrush Green by Miss Read, but didn't realized it had to be visually on the cover (not just in the title), so I switched out The Hearing Trumpet (I don't have a single book with a phone, TV, or radio on the cover, OK?);

♥️ the second book in a series you haven't finished: good news -- I went back to my posts and realized I finished the Palliser novels 🥳, bad news -- I've only read two of Zola's series. The second is The Kill (but it depends on whether you follow the publication date or his suggested reading order);

♥️ your shortest title for the shortest month: "We" by Zamaitin. ("We " what? I don't know -- I haven't read it);

♥️ a book with "Two" or "2"  in the title: Goethe's Faust Part Two (fight me 😅);

♥️ a red book for Valentines Day: Five for Sorrow, Ten for Joy by Rumer Godden;

♥️ a pet on the cover for Feb 20, Love Your Pet Day: Thomasina by Paul Gallico.😽

Swipe to see why I need to do more book challenges -- I found a set of twins (you can't know how this pains me especially when I buy used books to save money most of the time 🤦🏻‍♀️). I also found my The Invention of Morel which I didn't think I have I was about to buy. 😂

If you think this looks like fun please join in!

Bracing up for the run-up to Xmas?  Ready to face the fact that it’s almost time to say goodbye to 2025? 😮😥⏱️🎄🎉🎀☃️

The lovely @books_tea_ asked about my final contenders for December and I hope to squeeze in these two that look season-appropriate and would also fit into the Winter Book Bingo organised by @lisalovesmissmarple ❄️

The Ice Palace by Tarjei Vesaas

High Rising by Angela Thirkell (the first in her “Barsetshire” series, which reminds me that I need to resume Anthony Trollope’s own version! 😉)

I haven’t read anything by these authors yet, even if I contemplated picking up The Bridges (by Vesaas) first last summer because my library had it in stock, but I had bitten off more than I could chew 😅

I’d also love to get round to Selma Lagerlöf’s short story collection, A Book for Christmas… even if I’ve heard it described as too churchy and sanctimonious, so we’ll see. 🙈 Even in Jane Eyre, the religious passages irked me a little and I still haven’t gotten over the fact that the preachy zealot had the last word. But I’m getting carried away 😅

I’m not even sure I’ll manage to read them before the end of the month since at the moment I’m knee-deep in undergrad essays and error-ridden translations to mark. 105 down. 325 to go. 🫣 So that’ll occupy me for a little while.

❔What about you? Are there books that you absolutely want to read before the New Year? Or are you like me, always fantasising about reading Christmassy books but procrastinating until it’s too late? 🙈😅 Tagging a few but anyone’s welcome to share their eleventh-hour TBRs of course
