POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A crisis for one person may be a life altering illness, for another a sky full of burning bombs falling towards them as they cower in flimsy tents, and for another the breaking sound of their own heart of a betrayal so deep they move towards the tents to help. And some, living as we do in lurid timelines, manufacture crises for others: shaming them, calling for their firing, calling for their deportation. While for others the word crisis arrives in quieter forms: a spiritual crisis, a moral crisis, a crisis of conscience.

Folklore is not just a collection of old habits. It is an anchor. It is a survival mechanism encoded in our bones.
In times of deep uncertainty, when the rational mind offers no answers and the future looks like a void, folklore offers a different kind of knowledge. It offers continuity.

It whispers: This has happened before. We have survived this. We are still here.

🌸💗🛍️Groovy Chick Is a Cult🛍️💗🌸 some pics of the ritual robes in situ from ‘New Traditions’ exhibition: I illustrated these ritual robes with various ‘coming of age’ rituals teenage girls go through: I.e. first kiss, first period, stealing mascara from boots, first ciggie etc. I then wore the robes and enacted these rituals whilst being filmed.

‘Groovy Chick Is a Cult’: delves into the cult-like devotion to Groovy Chick merchandise and lifestyle. Growing up with a Groovy Chick magazine subscription, bedding, a blow-up chair, T-shirt, pencil case, and countless DIY projects, I lived and breathed Groovy Chick. The film explores this idea by illustrating my “ritual robes” with teenage coming-of-age rituals such as getting ears pierced at Claire’s Accessories, stealing makeup from Boots, first period, first crush, and more. I wore these robes during a performance piece where I enacted these rituals at The Galleries in Bristol, highlighting how modern cultural icons and practices are intertwined with our personal folklore.

This short film is a parody mockumentary retracing the story of a child brainwashed into consumer culture, starting with a magazine subscription and culminating in an entirely outfitted bedroom, pencil case, and various Groovy Chick fashion items.

Huge Thanks to my team:

‘Amulets, charms and witch bottles: Thinking about ‘magical’ objects in museum collections through Pagan practitioner and curator led interaction’ is a MOLA Impact Acceleration Account project supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AH/X003523/1).

I’m excited to be a partner in this project which is led by Nigel Jeffries and Tom Crowley. Thank you to everyone involved who helped make this first workshop so impactful, and special thanks to Bryony and Faye from @pittriversmuseum

As Pagans so many of us are avid-museum goers, it is hoped that more museums can work to engage with this community, improve accessibility and in turn better understand their magic and folklore collections and the practices that continue today.

Contact us if you have any photos like these of the missing finials! For a recreation 3D for a heritage trail we need source material. Photographer Peter Marshall took these stunning ones in the 1980s and these are just at some of the 160 that are missing. Ending up in auctions. #stolen #workingclassheritage #artineverydaylifest #crimeagainstworkingpeople it's "communal art: it's ours"

The @commongroundlincs Folklore Open Call is CLOSED. Our team would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the artists who submitted, everyone who got in touch to support us and everyone who liked, shared and commented on our posts. It's you guys who have got this opportunity to go far and wide, reaching incredible creatives.

We've had a very high number of applicants, so our team is making the decision to take an extra few days to review them. This means successful artists should hear from us by 16th August 2021. We're making this decision in order to spend as much time as possible reviewing each application.

Best of luck to all the artists who submitted 🍀
