I finally capped off my Jackson modding project! Just look at this 🫨💛 I’m affectionately calling this, “The Lambent” cuz the finish reminds me of the infected enemies in the original Gears of War trilogy You may remember me nerding out about this Jackson JS22 because of the quartersawn neck it came with. I would otherwise never go to these lengths to modify a guitar in the way I have this one. All this to say, this has been a great project to indulge this year, and I couldn’t have done it without all the people who were involved From it’s humble beginnings, I installed a Hipshot bridge in place of the stock one. I then took it to Don (@screamingleaming) to reshape the body, add an ultra contoured heel for ease of access to the upper frets, as well as add a swoop to the top of the headstock. It remained that way for a while, and I even did some session work in that configuration I always knew I wanted more, so when I had the time, I brought it to my good friend @eiffeltravis (@forencichguitars) to add the Tamo Ash top + matching headstock, bevel the horns, and reshape the neck profile and fretboard radius to my liking. The frets were replaced with stainless steel as well. I did the ebonizing for the fretboard, and it’s gotta be the best one I’ve done @lacepickups made these amazing damascus steel patterned Alumitones that compliment the top so well! And, of course, @wilkinsguitars tied it all together with this stunning Ferrari yellow finish with a small black burst and grain enhancement I’ll upload a tone sample very soon, but trust me, it plays and sounds killer. It’s got all the signs of handmade touches on it, making this a very human effort 😊 I can still think of a few things I’d like to add to it, but for all intents and purposes, this one’s in the bag ✅ So glad to have this in my collection, and for the collaborative opportunities it created for me throughout 🫰🏻

Got my 1991 Les Paul Studio Lite back from @forencichguitars and it's such a player now! What's new? -TonePros bridge & tailpiece -Hipshot locking tuners -Hapas Nightmær set -GraphTech TUSQ nut -Amber top hat knobs I immediately felt this guitar's potential when I picked it off the wall at Guitar Center's used section, but man, it was such a mess. The slim taper neck is what ultimately sold me, but there was something else to it that I just couldn't quite put my finger on. I suppose I have a soft spot for the less orthodox or popular Les Pauls out there. First the BFG, now this... at least these aren't expensive, but both punch way above their tier now that they are all upgraded. Travis did a great job turning this from a massively chewed up mess into an absolute ripper. It's fun to play and sounds big and chunky. I had it set up in B standard for Crowbar riffage. A lot of you wanted to know more about my baritone Strat build, so here we go! Things I didn't get to adress in the video: 1) I had the guitar assembled and set up by @forencichguitars, because I wanted a pro to dial it in. 2) Travis had to add some finishing touches to the fretwork, which is a bit disappointing for a $400 Fender neck. While he was at it, he satinized the back of the otherwise glossy neck for me. 3) The neck is pretty chunky and has a very round feeling (to me) radius, which is taking some getting used to. 4) My total parts cost does not include the Hapas Nightmær pickup, which I didn't really have to pay for, being that it's my sig pickup. So take that into consideration. 5) For $93-ish, the XGP body is solid. Guitar Fetish claim they're made of alder in the US, but I have no way of verifying that obviously. Out of all the bodies they offer, the XGP line is their highest tier. 6) The finish is not 100% perfect, which is to be expected at this price point. There are little imperfections under the clear coat that do not bother me at all. 7) The signal chain is guitar -> Total Distortion Worship -> Revv D20 -> Impulse Response. I just got my 2nd EGC neck Jazzmaster mod project back over the weekend and it's looking glorious. And unlike my other bari EGC JM, I did not go minimalistic with this one at all! So what's new? Obviously I had the neck swapped for an @electricalguitarcompany 27.78" baritone conversion neck. The guitar is now tuned down to drop G. The stock vibrato was upgraded with a @descendantvibrato, which is not only a great alternative to a Mastery, but also creates an improved break angle for the strings behind the top-mounted bridge. Speaking of which, the stock unit was replaced with a @graphtechguitarlabs TOM that allows for much smoother vibrato operation and improves tuning stability. I was afraid the gold might pop too much, but it blends right in. In the near future, I also wanna replace the pickups with something hotter and the wiring/electronics for something, well, higher quality. The pickup selector switch especially is hot garbs. All of the work on this guitar was done by Travis at @forencichguitars here in Portland. He also set up my @redlayerguitars 7 while he was at it. Absolutely thrilled to finally have this Ibanez S7420 fretless conversion finished. @eiffeltravis AKA @forencichguitars did a stunning job on the custom @richlitefretboard fingerboard, working with me for months to get it just right. It was no easy feat to wrangle this fairly unusual material, which is made of densely layered recycled paper, but the end result speaks for itself. I came up with the idea for the minimal double helix line pattern, but Travis elevated the design, suggesting the beautiful brass inlays and side dots we ended up with.
