Last Thursday in Atlanta, we premiered the screening of my new short film “no stitch can repair the fire from the bottom that allows one to take stage.”

First and foremost, a huge thank you to @ayyeeekay over at @else.where____ for curating, facilitating, and spearheading this project from beginning to end, overcoming all barriers.

Also, super thankful to @antylc and @forkeepsbooks for opening their doors and providing the space, especially when others abruptly closed theirs.

The support from the community was overwhelming, and though I couldn’t be there in person, I truly felt the love and spirit.

For those who missed the original screening, we have another opportunity coming up! Join us on Juneteenth, this Wednesday, June 19, from 7-9 PM for our second screening at @thegoatfarm .

I can’t express enough gratitude to the Atlanta community and my family. Your support, guidance, eagerness, and trust mean everything to me and this project.

Hi 👋🏽 Book Baddies ‼️

I know a lot of us are gearing up to attend @indielove24 next month. Here’s a list of black owned bookstores in Atlanta and surrounding areas!
The bookstore list includes:
@forkeepsbooks
@44thand3rdbookseller
@braveandkindbooks @thebookcellaratl
@nubian_bookstore

I’ve also included two bookish events during the same weekend as Indie Love. Please stay tuned for updates on the silent book club event at @atlsilentbookclub and for more info on the book signing please head to @authorrhondamcknight page.

I don’t know about y’all … but I usually work up an appetite while eating! I’ve compiled a list of vegan restaurants to check out as well. I am a huge foodie and being vegan the options are endless. Even if you aren’t vegan, you should give these restaurants a try. I’m already drooling because I can’t wait to eat at as many places as I can. 🤣

The Vegan Restuarant list is as follows
@sluttyveganatl
@planta
@veganwangs
@barveganatl
@themackvegan
@calaveritasatl
@dulcevegan
Kafe Culture
@rhwretailvegancafe
@hippiehibachi
@plantbasedpizzeria
@plantedsoulatl
@chichiveganatl
@plantbased.roots
@lasemilla.atl

Even if you aren’t attending Indie Love next month, this guide can still be helpful to those that are visiting Atlanta.

Are you attending Indie Love? If so, what are your plans? Love you book baddies & I look forward to seeing those in attendance. 🫶🏽🩷🤸🏽‍♂️

Sooooooo…..We had some technical difficulties last Thursday, yall. The meeting turned out to be a nice bubbly mix, but, we could NOT get the macbooks to talk to the projector. ::Sigh:: BUT! We have fixed the issue and we STILL want to watch the film! We WILL be watching “Neptune Frost” this Thursday!

Directed by Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman, this visually stunning film tells the modern story of the relationship between Neptune and Matalusa, coltan miners whose love leads a hacker collective. You don’t want to miss this! It’s a musical, it’s poetry, it’s a fable, it’s sci-fi, it’s all the things and yet I STILL can’t fully describe it.

We will examine and contemplate the ways in which the film addresses issues of colonialism, globalization, and cultural identity through the lens of contemporary social and political realities in Africa and beyond. More so, How do we challenge traditional narratives of technology and progress, is there potential for tech advancements to empower marginalized communities?

Doors Open at 6:30PM, Screening begins at 7PM Stick around for lively discussion and fellowship.
RSVP Required! Link in bio

Join us this Sunday for a @villa.albertine Resident Artist Talk with Lydia Amarouche & Rosa Duffy!

Lydia Amarouche (@shed.publi) and Rosa Duffy (@antylc) will explore practices of resistance and possible margins of action around the independent book scene. From the processes of publishing, to distribution, to curating and reading, they will discuss the importance of creating and nurturing community spaces, ephemeral in the case of Shed publishing, and perennial in the case of For Keeps. Amarouche and Duffy will share the challenges that exist in the book sector, in their two countries, France and the United States, and cities, Marseille and Atlanta.

Marseille-based publisher and curator Lydia Amarouche is a sociology, anthropology, and history graduate of the École Normale Supérieure. She explores various archive documents to create publishing surveys that are either exhibited or performed. In 2019, she launched Corpus, a series of collective, open-access readings that dealt with colonial history, queer and feminist issues, the penitentiary system, education, and art. In 2020, she founded Shed publishing, a publishing and art platform that releases essays on social and political theory, and youth literature. Lydia also lectures at Aix-Marseille University.

Rosa Duffy is an Atlanta-based artist, and the owner/curator of For Keeps Books. Born and raised in Atlanta, Rosa’s passion for both literature and visual arts led her to establish For Keeps Books in 2018, a unique bookstore, reading room and archive dedicated to celebrating Black literature in all its forms. In addition to her work with For Keeps Books, Rosa continues to pursue her own artistic endeavors, exhibiting her work in galleries and cultural institutions across the country. Her art serves as a reflection of her deeply held beliefs, exploring themes of identity, heritage, and the human experience. Through the diversity of her artistic pursuits, Rosa aims to amplify marginalized voices and foster community engagement. Her work as both an artist and entrepreneur reflects her commitment to social change and the transformative power of both the visual and literary arts.
