A look back at a special weekend of dancing, learning, travelling, and connection — a seed of Forró sown in Cornwall 🌱

Huge thanks to @felipeabreuessencia for getting us started and returning with such generosity, and to Agui @forro_devon for helping open up Forró in the South West beyond @forrobristol
That support made it possible for @becalelis.brodskis to start @barefoot.forro just a few months ago, back in October 2025.

I might be getting older, but Forró in Cornwall is still very young 😅 More hands very welcome to make sure this Forro 💛 has the support it needs to come out and play

Thanks to the spaces that held the weekend: @jubilee_wharf Zed Shed (Penryn), St Gluvias Community Hall, and @communityroots.cornwall taking Forro on the North Coast — and to the 55 people who showed up, danced, were just full@of ❤️, and helped this grow.

Next up:
Forró Practica @dynamitevalleybrewery
🗓 Thursday 18 December
⏰ 6:30–8:00pm (possibly later if people show up and the space allows) thank @griffiel.griffiths for making that happen

Looking ahead to 2026, we’ll continue with a peer-to-peer practica approach — dancing together and, when possible, inviting visiting Forró dancers to inspire us.

No partner needed. Everyone explores leading and following. @barefoot.forro doesn’t have “gendered roles 🌈#forró #dancecornwall #latincornwall #forróuk #falmouth
👉 DM to join the WhatsApp group or invite us to your location.

May this seed flourish in 2026 🌱

Ianna, born and raised in Belém, Brazil, infuses her dance with the essence of her culture. She blends the rhythms with carimbó and tones of jambú, reminding that forró is much more than moves, it is the fire that moves us.

From a young age, she embraced the art of mixing dance styles like lambada and forró eletrônico. In 2015, Ianna relocated to Germany and began her forró teaching journey in Kiel in 2017. Currently based in Göttingen, she offers regular forró classes, supports forró communities with energetic workshops, and organizes community and charity-driven forró events. Her project @forrogoettingen has already donated over 15 thousand Euros to educational projects and indigenous communities in Brazil.

Dancing as both leader and follower, she explores the fusion of forró styles, creating a dynamic experience for her partners. Her approach emphasizes freedom, playfulness, rhythms, and a deep connection to the music, turns, embracing, and a mix of intuitive moves, skilfully navigating body and space to bring the dance to life.
