The thing about the entertainment industry, everything moves so fast - I rarely look back and reflect on all the songs I've put out on steaming but just got sent this by one of yo lovely lot.
HUGE ❤️ to @_mia_wilks for taking the time to blog this about a song I wrote about one of my favourite couples who fled Poland in the 1980s for the safety of the US and ended up falling in love, despite them living in limbo between the thrells of communism & capitalism - that's where they fell in love 💕.

Do check out @_mia_wilks music also, she's a phenomenal writer and singer self.

Also beyond thankful to @platinummind , @trustthedoc & the entire @fotnblog team . @freshonthenet you established such a beautiful community. Thankyou XX

IT’S FRIDAY AND THAT MEANS NEW MUSIC DISCOVERY 🎧

Every Friday, I’m sharing my Top 5 picks from this week’s Fresh On The Net @fotnblog submissions — discovering new artists and songs that I think deserve to be heard.

There’s so much incredible independent music being made right now, and this is my way of shining a little light on some of it. 🦋

🔥 TRACK OF THE WEEK THIS WEEK IS…

@michaeldeane96 Loving You For Free

Michael Deane is an independent North London-based recording artist, singer, and music producer. He specializes in creating an eclectic sound that seamlessly blends elements of bedroom pop, alternative hip-hop, and R&B

But there are four more artists and songs that caught my attention too they are in no particular order :

1. @gradykmusic Talk It Out
2. @clamber_clamber Collaborate
3. @ama_adem Butterflies
4. @xoemiles Miss Me

Go and check them all out, follow them, save their music and, most importantly, give them a listen. ❤️

And if you’re an independent artist, keep submitting your music to Fresh On The Net — you never know who might discover you.

NEW MUSIC DISCOVERY every single Friday.

@pecqband - Freer

Moving from raw, intimate electro-indie into soaring harmonies and bass-heavy breakbeats, new single ‘freer’ finds @pecqband exploring how grief heightens our attention to the everyday, finding traces of lost loved ones in the world around them.

But there are four more artists and songs that caught my attention too they are in no particular order :

1. @yanngaudeuille - Babylon
2. @joelbaileymusic - On The Run
3. @iamluismolverajr - Blue Hoodie
4. @lyvinaah - Moonlight

Go and check them all out, follow them, save their music and, most importantly, give them a listen. ❤️

i told you things would get weirder

and they did, didn’t they?

super happy that ‘flesh.’ is a ‘fresh fave’ on @fotnblog

really appreciate everyone who took the time to listen, and to @sherrysahayra and @trustthedoc for their lovely, thoughtful reviews

‘flesh.’ was produced and mixed by @michaelbakermusic aka @romanjoonmusic, mastered by @amsterdam_mastering and includes moments of ethereal harp by @sekinue

📚 Some essential reading has just arrived!

Really pleased to get my copy of “Ethical Marketing And Promotion For Independent Artists”, written by my fellow Fresh On The Net moderators Neil March & Sherin Sahayaraj, and edited by Sue Oreszczyn.

As independent artists, so much of what we do goes way beyond actually making the music. We’re expected to understand promotion, social media, marketing, building an audience and somehow getting our music heard — often without a huge budget or a team behind us.

But how we do that matters too.

The idea of approaching promotion in a way that is ethical, authentic and sustainable really resonates with me, particularly at a time when artists are constantly being told to chase numbers, algorithms and engagement.

It also feels very much in keeping with what I’m trying to explore with “Sharing What Really Works” — finding practical, realistic ways for independent musicians to navigate an increasingly complicated industry.

Looking forward to getting stuck into this one. Congratulations Neil, Sherin & Sue! 👏📖🎶

🎵 WHAT DOES YOUR MUSIC LEGACY MEAN TO YOU?

Episode 5 of SHARING WHAT REALLY WORKS is out today.

This week I’m talking about something that has become increasingly important to me as an independent artist — legacy.

I’ve been releasing music for many years now, and one of the reasons I still make albums, revisit older songs and care about how my catalogue is preserved is because I want the music I create to have a life beyond the moment it’s released.

We spend so much time as independent artists thinking about the next single, the next playlist, the next stream or the next opportunity that sometimes we forget to look backwards at what we’ve already created.

Those songs are part of our story.

In Episode 5 I talk about why music legacy matters to me, why my catalogue is something I increasingly value, and why I believe independent artists should think about the long-term life of their music — not just what happens during release week.

If you’re an independent musician building a body of work of your own, I’d love to know:

Do you ever think about your musical legacy?

🎥 Episode 5 of SHARING WHAT REALLY WORKS is on my YouTube channel now.

And if you’ve been finding the series useful, subscribing to the channel really does help me continue to grow it. 🦋
