At home with the Colliers 🌿

Summer backyard sessions are becoming some of my favorites to photograph and honestly, I think it’s because they are never staged or planned. Literally life happening around me and trying not to get whiplash from simply trying to keep up. As chaotic as they can feel they yield the most wonderful, truly authentic images and this one was no different.

Four boys, their family garden, a garden hose and an entire flock of chickens. I spent my time with them spinning in circles trying to catch whatever was happening in every corner of their yard including:

The oldest hauling the youngest over his shoulder like it was absolutely nothing

The boys taking off for the playground the second we stepped outside and then just staring down at me like they were the lost boys guarding their fort from Captain Hook

Emilie, quietly and intentionally, teaching the boys about every single vegetable she pulled out of that garden

My gentle suggestion of bringing out the garden hose followed by frantic joyous running because Mom and Dad said yes and they absolutely had to take advantage

I don’t even know how to describe what I love most about nights like this except that I just get to disappear and observe the playing and climbing and exploring exactly the way they would if I wasn’t even standing there with a camera.

Completely and utterly here for the families who let me disappear into their everyday 🤍
