Grateful for another Summer surrounded by my friends and my family, art and artists, food and foolishness, my revenge hair and my nice ass. Faced a lot of challenges, complications, dilemmas and duplicitous divas this summer and yet, I am the victor, time for a victory tour? We have so much bad we have to combat together! Love you guys <3<3<3

On Friday, June 12th, The Turret Arts Space hosted a Places of Pride Stamp celebration following the launch in on June 4th in Toronto at @the519! ✨ The four-stamp issue commemorates The Turret Club (1976-1982) as a significant piece of queer heritage in Canada, honouring the space's history and impact on the broader 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Speaking at the Halifax launch are Turret Arts Space Society's Brit Fox, queer historian and Take Back The Turret member Robin Metcalfe, Lauren Harris from Canada post, as well as local author and activist Rebecca Rose. Dan Hamilton, VP of Communications and Stakeholder Management, addresses the Turret and its history: "The Turret, The Turret of downtown Halifax, provided a safe space and a time and place which simply didn't exist for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Halifax." @canadapostagram Featured in Places of Pride 2026 are: 🌈 The 519 Toronto 🌈 Metamorphosis festival in Saskatoon 🌈 Little Sister's Book & Art Emporium in Vancouver 🌈 The Turret in Halifax #placesofpride #pridestamps #pride2026 #queerheritage #prideseason #queerhistory

TURRET OPEN HOUSE! This weekend we're so pleased to announce that Turret will be open on Saturday & Sunday! Saturday 21st March: 10am - 2pm Sunday 22nd March: 2pm - 5:45pm, then we're off to @stardustbarhalifax for the Variety Show! VP of the TASS board @foxtrapped will be there both days with tea, coffee, and merch! Plus we'll have guests from our community coalition TAKE BACK THE TURRET stopping by throughout! Want to chat about the building and its history? Learn about our plans for the space? Just want to walk through an incredible historic buidling in the heart of downtown - come on down!! 📣📣 On a serious note, if HRM decides to ignore the community's pleas to save the space - Turret Arts Space Society & Take Back the Turret will lose total access to this incredible building. We're not giving up any time soon - but we want our community to know that the end of March is the last time we can guarantee hosting folks in the building. If this weekend doesn't work - do not hesitate to get in touch with us! We want you to make sure as many folks as possible can access the space!

Sending our endless gratitude to everyone that braved the weather and visited us for a TAKE BACK THE TURRET Queer History Teach In with @novascotiastudentstrike @studentunionofnscad and @nsyouthproject ! It warmed all of our hearts to see the building come to life with so many people who showed up and spent this rainy Tuesday together. It's such an important reminder that spaces like the Turret: where we can go to gather & organize with one another are vital to our communities not just surviving - but thriving. Communities create these spaces because they are rarely provided to us and never without a fight. Today's speakers included Robin Metcalfe, Lynn Murphy, and Nathan Elling all of who organzied in the building throughout the 70's-90's, @carmelyouthproject who prompted folks to think through what queer futures within the Turret building might look like, and @foxtrapped (b.fox) Vice President with TASS who spoke about the dreams of an accessible queer art space and how we've worked to make those a real potential. Knowing our history makes us able to fight for our futures. You can find the rest of the student strike events alongside the reasons why the students are organizing in their bio and posts! And we invite you to come out to the events this weekend and next week! We're so excited to see you!!! 💙💙💙💙 Photos by the lovely & incredible @nataliemichelle.ca

July is flying by, and our HEAT WAVES artists are hard at work! Want to hear more about what they’ve gotten up to this month during their time with Eyelevel? We will be holding an artist talk shortly after the residency wraps up on Wednesday, August 7th at 7:30 pm ADT (Atlantic time) over Zoom! Each of our four artists will briefly talk about their work, with time for a Q&A period afterward. The meeting will be transcribed and ASL interpretation will be provided. Pre-register for the artist talk at the link in our bio! Image description: An infographic with bold white text in the middle reading ‘Heat Waves twenty twenty four artist talk, with Brit Fox, Claudia Manco Peña, ivan beck, & Toby Green’. Bold grey text in the bottom left corner, in front of a white rectangle, reads ‘August seventh at seven thirty P M, A D T, via Zoom. Pre-registration required, start parentheses, link in bio, end parentheses”. The infographic is designed in a 1980s style, with white dots and squiggly lines scattered throughout, as well as a dark yellow grid to the top left, dark yellow circles and squares, pastel orange and purple cartoonish lightning bolts to the top left and bottom right, and a pastel blue wave to the lower left, over a yellow background.

💌MEET THE TEAM💌 - Britt, 15th Anniversary Archive Assistant Britt Moore-Shirley (they/them) is a white-settler nonbinary media artist, researcher, and arts administrator currently based in Kjipuktuk in Mi’kma’ki (Halifax, Nova Scotia). Originally from the lands of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak, and Chonnonton Nations (London, Ontario) they are pursuing a BA in Art History and Contemporary Culture alongside a BFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at NSCAD university. In their own practice they use multi-media installation, performance, and printed matter, to examine currents of exchange between intimate personal histories and the public sphere. Complicating personal and collective histories with layers of materials and technologies they aim to navigate difficult conversations and practices in spaces of care and community. As a writer and researcher, they are interested in queer-feminist theory, fat politics, and trauma-informed practices, particularly as they intersect with conversations of technology, media representation, and digital embodiment. When not working you can find Britt sketching, jamming out to 80's rock, or prepping their next dungeons and dragons campaign somewhere sunny.
