With a scorcher of a summer predicted, we’re already dreaming of the perfect pool and patio. And @vkdb_design has us rethinking what makes an outdoor space truly irresistible.

A fully tiled pool? A fire pit with generous seating? Wind screening for those blustery afternoons, non-slip tiles underfoot and water-wise planting that looks beautiful without demanding too much?

So, what’s non-negotiable on your poolside wish list?

Natural Wonder. A marvelous editorial in Homes and Gardens (Britain) featuring beautiful Ballotina. Listening closely to this house has brought it a new and invigorating life where historic architecture frames a selection of antiques, contemporary art and design. Ever wondered what I sound like in Dutch? The wait is over ;) One of my stories (originally penned for @houseandleisure)on the inspirational home of @daneerwee in St James has been translated and features in the new @residencemag. Thanks @frankfeatures! Better yet, it's their cover story. This home, scanning False Bay from up high, ranks among my top 10 properties ever visited and written about, thanks to its owners' inimitable sense of #style, the many layers of texture and collected pieces. Not to mention its sensuous curves. It's both unpretentious and downright stylish.

HOUSE TOUR: Inspired by the rugged coastal landscape of a peninsula about 40 minutes from South Africa's Cape Town, designers Bruce Fyfe and Kelcey Boyce use color and texture to create a glorious, soothing year-round family retreat that is a stunning companion to its breathtaking landscape. We don't know about you, but we'd be on permanent retreat here! 🤩

Very late to the party on this one but SUCH a thrill when I get to write about the homes of friends. And this one is special in every way. A soulful home created by a sooper dooper creative couple whose family has crept into our hearts - big time. Neighbours, friends, fellow creatives - my cup runneth over. Read all about them in the latest issue of @houseandleisure

If only walls could talk. Roça Sundy has lived many lives, from its beginnings as a cocoa plantation house, to the place where Einstein’s theory of relativity was proved, to today, where it welcomes travellers from around the world. It is the most historic property in our collection.

Make sure to wander the grounds and you will see traces of its past everywhere, telling the story of Príncipe’s history.

On the first photo is Eclipse House, where we have six en-suite bedrooms in this charming building that used to be the main house of the roça: three on the ground floor (one Suite and two Yard rooms); and three Panoramic rooms each with a private balcony and panoramic views on the first floor (swipe to see the view!)

Don’t forget that when you book a stay at Roça Sundy between now and November 30, you can get 20% off at checkout on our website with the code SUNDY.

Honored to have our home “Ballotina” in Tulbagh featured in @houseandleisure ‘s latest edition “Embrace”. Founded in 1699 as the fourth European settlement in the Western Cape, its architecture was grounded in the emerging and unique Cape Dutch tradition. Almost completely destroyed in the 1969 earthquake, the government quickly rallied to restore the towns buildings and its legacy. Now it boasts the largest number of national monuments in the country, most situated on Church Street. It seems fitting then, that Belgium’s @ateliervierkant considered a renewed Ballotina as an inviting, living platform in which to present their sculptural clay vessels, made by hand using historic techniques. Is 💙 + 🤍 the answer to everything? We're leaning toward yes, especially when we think about this glorious family home on the Greek island of Serifos (from the CL archives!). 💙 🇬🇷 💙
