Running might look like an individual sport… but it’s never done alone.
These are just some of the people who show up, put in the work, and make the journey what it is. 🏃‍♂️💪
Some runs are tough, some are fun, but it’s always better with the right people around you.
And honestly… that’s what helps you get back up, every time.

🌄 UTCT 2025.
From 16 to 100 Miles…
What a Crew 🔔🦄🦖

Jacquie kicked us off on Thursday already, enjoying the 16 km. Then Friday we had three Pirates at the start of the 55… Marelie, Greg and Almero, joined by friends of the Scurvies Hanno, Jacu and Rachel. The Scurvies tracked them from aid station to aid station and they absolutely smashed a brutally windy and, in the calm bits, seriously hot day. Marelie flew to a sub 9 which is just incredible.

That evening we sent Pirates Admire, Donovan, Jeren and Ryan into the wild Cape winds for the 100 miler, together with our great friends Cecilia and Marius. Adie kept SA and Zim buzzing the whole way as he tactically and calmly worked his way through the field to take third place. What a race!!!

The next morning at 4am Byron, Ian and Frans set off on the 100 km, together with friends of the Scurvies and regular Wafflers (iykyk) Jade and Kyle. Less wind, more heat, huge day out there. Albert crushed the 23 in proper oven conditions.

What made it special wasn’t just the running. Whether you raced or not, the support was nonstop. Scurvies stayed up through the nights, chased runners between aid stations, paced sandy stretches, rang cowbells, handed out hugs and beers and kept the vibe going no matter what happened in their own race. The spirit was unreal.

As our last Miler crossed the finish line, Alastair and friend Alex lined up for the 35 km, heading straight into the howling wind… only for the race to be cancelled. Tough luck, but huge respect for showing up ready to go.

Thank you @utct for still creating magic in wild weather and keeping everyone safe. What a festival of trail running. Already excited to see even more Scurvies out there next year.

✨ Sky & UTCT Send-Off ✨

This morning’s Waffles was all about celebrating the hard work, dedication, and stoke of everyone heading off to @kwaysky and @utct soon ⛰️🥳

In true trail style, there was a surprise appearance (complete with cowbells 🦄🔔) to bring some extra magic to the taper vibes, as it’s now time to pack the big gear and get race-ready!

No matter the distance, each runner has their own mountain to climb, and we’re wishing everyone an unforgettable time out there. 🌄

And to top it all off, we got to celebrate @ottojm her birthday 🎉 with cake, brownies, and even special waffles from @fransflippo visiting from the Netherlands 🇳🇱🧇

What a morning! 🌈🏴‍☠️

Besides one of us bringing home the biggest prize of the entire event (what a show off… 🤣), we all brought home a medal that means the world, and left a piece of ourselves out there in the mountains 🥰

Winning the 100 Mile event at @ultratraildrakensberg 2024 in a time of 21h01 - @adie_athlete, my friend, my teammate, mentor… it was an honor to stand with you this weekend and watch you shine, like only you can. We are so, so proud of you! You’re a legend, and a champion. Congratulations on an incredible performance 🏆😎

So proud of our little team of misfits! Here’s to the next mountain adventure!

Trail running has a community that very few sports have

I think because when we race, we race with everyone and very seldom race against them.

It was great to spend time out in the splendour of the #drakensberg mountains this weekend with team mates, friends, fellow competitors and absolute complete strangers

And making friends for life.

There are no guarantees on a start line, and all races don’t go according to plan, but sometimes winning doesn’t mean crossing the finish line. Sometimes it means you’re a better person just because you had the courage to line up at the start and celebrate with a beer when you’re done
