Mouvement Djam

👀 Inscris-toi maintenant!

I recently learned that SYTYCD will not be returning for another season. Like many dancers of my generation, that news brought back a lot of memories. The last Canadian season was my season, the one where I had the opportunity to be part of the Top 10 in Season 4.
At the time, I saw it mainly as a competition. Looking back, I realize it was really just the beginning of a much bigger journey.

Through the auditions and the show, I met Julie. Today, she is my life partner, my creative partner, my collaborator on countless projects, and the woman I still love deeply. This experience also brought me mentors, friends, artists, and colleagues who shaped my career, people like @luudaddy , @suavo and my great friend @jmgenereux , with whom I’ve had the privilege of collaborating on SYT “US” or the Next Generation version.

I remember a moment during the audition process in Toronto. Each round pushed us to perform a different style: ballroom, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary… constantly stepping outside our comfort zones. After a few rounds, another dancer came up to me and said: “When I saw you in ballroom, I thought you were clearly a ballroom dancer. Then I saw you in Hip-Hop, and I thought that was your main style. Then in jazz… and I honestly didn’t know what to think anymore!” To me, that was one of the greatest compliments I could receive.

That experience taught me that while having a strong identity is important, there is also immense value in curiosity, adaptability, and openness to every style.
Over time, that versatility became one of my biggest strengths, allowing me to move between different dance styles on TV, stage, film, variety shows, etc. It also earned me the reputation of a “ballroom dancer with swag,” which eventually became my nickname Franswag.
Like any TV show, SYT had its strengths and limitations, but its impact on the dance industry is undeniable.
Much like Révolution helped shine a spotlight on a new generation of dancers in Quebec, SYTYCD gave me the push I needed to believe that a career in dance and choreography was truly possible. Nearly 16 years later, I’m still grateful to make a living doing what I love.
Forever grateful for SYTYCD ❤️
