@blackwatercozumel @bobtec is the squid whisperer and they are attracted to him! This one materialized while he was showing me a diamond squid 🦑

I discovered this hula skirt siphonophore on a Thursday night blackwater dive. Initially I spotted what looked like a shrimp attached to a thin filament and followed it for 6-10 meters until I stumbled upon this incredible creature. Its net spanned a massive area making it impossible to capture on film so I focused on the main body. Watch as it slowly pulls in its delicate filaments. Be cautious though this siphonophore packs a painful sting I learned that the hard way with a nasty sting on my lips as I explored its nets.

Clubhook squid. The only hooked squid we see with any regularity. They big powerful fins make them incredibly fast agile hunters. Normally we only get to see them when they become disoriented next to the @krakensports Downline. This one turned up at the very end of Thursday nights @blackwatercozumel dive. @franz_behrmann was directly below giving us the fun bubbles
