Last Friday was such a special night📸🤎 The opening of our group exhibition, To Lift the Ground That Holds Us.

I’m so grateful to be exhibiting alongside such amazing, talented artists and to be part of something that explores culture and diversity in the art space. A huge thank you to @tireni.art for bringing us all together to make this happen. It’s been so rewarding to finally see all of our work come together!

I’m exhibiting three pieces: Rhythms of Our Roots, Manu Lisa and Home Comfort, each exploring different aspects of identity, heritage and representation.

The exhibition is open until 26 October at @lewishamarthouse, and we have a series of free workshops happening throughout the week!🏺🎨✏️ Free tickets are in the link in my bio. Would love to see you guys there🫶🏽

I’m at a point in my practice where I’m navigating what kind of story I’m trying to tell and what that looks like, Seyni Awa Camaras sculptures has always been an influence in my figures, there’s something deeply unsettling about her work that I find peace in. Her figures are simple yet they evokes a lot of emotions in me from simply looking at it. I spent a significant amount of time just staring at the works and I feel so inspired, can’t wait to get back into the studio🌀

Was there one work that became the emotional centre of What We Carry?

In this clip, Freda and Lauren talk about the piece that ended up holding a lot of the exhibition together, and why it became important to both of us in different ways.

Before ‘What We Carry’ became a series of sculptures, it started with research, references and questions Freda was working through.

In the first clip from our conversation with Tireni (@tirzni) Freda talks about some of those starting points and how they developed into the work.

Meet Artist Freda Osayuki Igiogbe
@fredarchives
I am a multidisciplinary artist whose work is rooted in storytelling. Through film, ceramics, and drawing, I explore the intersections of identity, spirituality, and cultural memory. My practice reflects the complexities of my upbringing, blending elements of African heritage and spirituality with Christian symbolism to explore the tension and beauty between these worlds. Currently, I work primarily with clay, creating symbolic, expressive sculptures that merge human and mythical forms. Clay’s deep connection to the earth and ancestral knowledge allows me to preserve and transform personal and cultural narratives. Through my work, I aim to challenge dominant perceptions, reclaim sacred traditions, and explore the layered stories we carry within ourselves.

As part of the mid-project Sharing Session at Likewise Community Centre Freda invited participants to create protectors for specific plants in the garden or for the whole living space.

“The Storylines workshops were a beautiful way of bringing people together through arts and crafts, I feel incredibly grateful to have facilitated one of the workshops. Seeing the joy in people’s faces when they’re making and working with clay is extremely rewarding.”

🌟 Spotlight: Freda O. Igiogbe 🌟
Earthbound Thoughts

Freda O. Igiogbe’s Earthbound Thoughts explores movement, fragility, and emotional tension through the interplay of clay and metal. The suspended, fragmented figure reflects a period of uncertainty and transition, balancing delicacy with restraint.

📍On view until 11 July at @artmovementlondon
Selected works are available to buy online via the Art Movement Gallery website.
