Happy Milk Jug Monday! We insist on starting this week with a jug half-full, not half empty! The show must go on! New FRED Talk coming soon-ish.

Please don’t fret. We’re all optimistic my AGA was caught early - before the nasty booty tumor had time to spread. CVRC’s oncologist says my tooter mass is small, and I’m a great candidate for surgery. We hope to get it scheduled ASAP.

We’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, “people like me” should make sure your vet does a booty check at your appointments. Oftentimes this cancer (anal sac adenocarcinoma) gives no warning signs. And when you’re symptomatic, with fishy smelling glands, ribbon-like poo or straining to defecate, it might be too late.

FRED Talk: Adenocarcinoma

Hey Furiends,
I’m letting Mum take the lead on this FRED Talk. Please know right now I feel fine and am being such a good boy while docs poke and prod my behind to check on my business back there. - Frederick

Frederick has been diagnosed with anal sac adenocarcinoma. A tumor near Frederick’s anal gland was confirmed to be cancerous after an FNA on 10/9.

It started with a freakish anal gland infection on 9/17 that didn’t go away after two weeks of antibiotics and steroids. We don’t know much else on next steps and/or cancer treatment. We will know more after getting the results of an X-ray and ultrasound tomorrow morning with veterinary oncology at CVRC. These tests will determine if the cancer has spread.

We plan to take you along on this cancer journey. Please note English Springer Spaniels like me - and many of you - are recognized as a high risk breed for anal sac adenocarcinoma.
