Hello, It’s time I introduce myself to all my new followers.
I am in athens at the moment on another buying trip. I always find my visits to Athens inspirational and good for my soul. I am happy here. It’s my safe place. I am home. A visit to Athens for me is always about sourcing new suppliers, catching up with my current ones and just savouring the creativity of the Greek Artisans. It never disappoints.
I was born in Athens Greece, my dad was a musician, played guitar and sang - so growing up in athens - my weekends were always in Plaka watching my dad perform and falling asleep on the chairs 😁.

Migrated to Australia at the age of 9 - had to learn a new language and adapt to a new culture. My sister moved back to Greece 30 years ago and she still lives in Athens. I stay with her whenever I come to Athens.

I am married and have two beautiful daughters who also live in Sydney .

I had a late career change at the age of 50. Decided that I wanted a job that made my heart sing. And so, I started my retail journey with studying interior design and then opening my first shop, @frenchcargo in Ramsgate. Travelling to Paris every year for French Cargo, I started to see emerging Greek Designers. So from 2018, I started to bring Greek Designers to Australia. Fast forward to 2021 and Greek Cargo was born. It was hard to contain my enthusiasm and the volume of Greek Designers that were emerging. I recognised their talent and had to give them their own space. So Greek Cargo was born and in 2022, I opened up a bricks and mortar store at 343 Homer Street, Earlwood.

I ran the two shops (french cargo and Greek cargo) for 4 years until exhaustion caught up and had to make the tough decision to close French Cargo down - and keep it only online.
Greek Cargo had been going from strength to strength and now consumes all my time. I have amazing staff who support my business and treat it like it’s their own. And an amazing partner who is exceptionally supportive of me and my business.

We just restocked the best selling cookbooks from @greekfoodphotography . We just love her books and our stores @frenchcargo and Greek Cargo have been selling them for the last 4 years. And you know what? These recipes are tried and tested and never age - why? Because they are authentic Greek cooking. And why are these books so popular? Because they are just not amazing Greek recipes that turn out perfect every time, but Ruth has put her talented photography skills and her heart into these books. Hellenic Kanella has the story of Ruth’s family and why she fell in love with Greek food - it’s traditional Greek recipes.
