POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This is Blue Pool Bay in South Wales, a totally natural turquoise gem of a tidal pool.

In collaboration with the author @freybromley , I have been painting my way through 10 of the UK’s tidal pools, including this one.

Freya’s writes about these special places in The Tidal Year, a beautiful book about the year she spent swimming in Britain’s tidal pools after her brother, Tom, died. It’s a story about trying to find joy in your life after the unthinkable happens, and cold water is somewhere both Freya and I have found joy.

The paintings are available to buy, and 50% of sales go to @surfersagainstsewage who campaign to end sewage pollution in our seas and rivers, so places like these stay safe to swim in.

The paintings are £150 each, and include a signed and dedicated copy of The Tidal Year.

Each painting is now also available as an A5 limited edition print. They will be signed and numbered, and cost £40 plus postage.

For the first 10 copies of each print, 50% of the sale price will also be donated to Surfers Against Sewage too.

DM me if you are interested in making a piece your own.

As we move deeper into Autumn, a season of letting go, and - according to Traditional Chinese Medicine- a time associated with the emotions of courage and sadness, we take a different turn with our next Extra Sharp event to focus on the journey of grief.

This topic has long fascinated me, no doubt owing to my personal experiences, however the more I brooch the subject the more I find, to my initial surprise, it is a topic people around me want to slow down, talk about and consider.

Find me on Substack where I attempted to write about some of this (Link in Bio👆🏻)

& Join me on NOVEMBER 18th to explore this topic with #rebeccailling of Camp Alex and @freybromley both of whom have captivated me with their work.
I promise we will make it joyful! I hope you can join us.

Tomorrow is our next online ‘In Conversation’ event! We’re thrilled to have master’s in creative writing alum Freya Bromley @freybromley joining us to discuss her debut novel, A REAL PIECE OF WORK, with Fiction Tutor Nick Bradley @nasubijutsu .

The event will takes place online, on Tuesday 8th September, 7-8pm UK. Registration link in bio. Free and open to everyone!

‘Nola McConkey has made it. Animal Oracle, the memoir she has written about her beloved late sister Darina, has become a hit. People read it, critics loved it, producers now want to make it into a movie. There’s only one problem: everyone in her family has an opinion about the book – and none of them are good.’ @penguinukbooks

Described as intricate, funny and philosophical (Emma Gannon) and ‘a sparkling ode to sisterhood’ (Sharlene Teo)’ A REAL PIECE OF WORK is Freya’s debut novel. Her other works include her Nero Book Award shortlisted memoir, The Tidal Year.

We’re so delighted for Freya and can’t wait to speak with her about her fantastic debut novel! @cambridge_pace

the start of the academic year is looming, and while I’m very excited to meet my new poetry students, I’m also stealing quiet moments where I can. like this morning at @storcoffee.co, where I finally found a moment to start reading @freybromley’s debut novel, A Real Piece of Work (it’s gorgeously written)

things are going to feel impossibly full over the next month, so here’s hoping for some creativity in between 🤍
