UCLA opened the season with a narrow 1–2 defeat at home to BYU, a tough start despite a full shift from center back Frischknecht, who played the entirety of a match stretched to 101 minutes.
Frischknecht — RCB, 101 minutes
Frischknecht was a steady presence at the back, completing 29 of 49 total actions (59.2%) and showing composure in possession with 25 of 28 passes finding their target (89.3%). She was flawless in the air, winning both of her aerial duels, and contributed 7 interceptions to help disrupt BYU's attacking play.
Ground duels proved tougher, however — she won just 3 of 7 (43%), and while she registered 8 recoveries in the opponent's half, only 1 came in a genuinely dangerous area (12.5%). Going forward, her impact was minimal, as expected from a center back: a single long-range effort (0.1 xG, off target) and no chances created.
Match Context
The result snapped what would have been a strong start to the year, with BYU's two goals proving decisive despite UCLA controlling spells of the match. Matt & I hopped on a plane after the BYU women’s game last night and flew 1800 miles overnight to see my dude become a National Champion for the 2nd time (6th consecutive for BYU) at the US College Club Soccer Championships! ….and, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. We are just so lucky that Kyle gets to be a part of this amazing BYU soccer program. Coaches who teach & care, not just about Soccer, but about life. Loyal teammates who are the best young men and also great friends. And, Supportive parents who will do anything for the team.
So…Another national ring for Kyle tonight, more amazing memories, and just another reminder of how lucky I am to call you my son! Loving you and cheering you on will always be one of my life’s greatest joys!🫶🏻 GO COUGS!!!💙
