Meet Dr. Virginia Peterson-Graziose, Chair of our Nursing Department here at Farmingdale State College.

At the end of January, we hosted our spring Stethoscopes for Success Ceremony! 52 nursing students received the gift of their very first stethoscope, thanks to the generous donations of our alumni and friends.

Looking back on our favorite way to kick off the semester: the @farmingdalesc Nursing Stethoscope Ceremony! Each semester, incoming nursing students receive the gift of a stethoscope, fully sponsored by the donations of our alumni, faculty, staff, and friends. The Strong Nurses Program on April 17, 2025, was a very successful event for the Chi Gamma Chapter of Sigma and co-sponsor, the FSC Student Nurses Association, with 100 students and faculty in attendance.

Registered nurses from Northwell Health instructed participants on safe body mechanics and injury avoidance. Attendees also learned strategies on preventing and addressing violence in the workplace.

Chapter members and Farmingdale nursing students participated in using hover mats, hover jacks, and slide sheets to move simulated patients.
Participants overwhelmingly reported that the information they gained was crucial, effectively delivered, and of extreme value for their future nursing practice.

Channel 12 News was in attendance to film this wonderful event, and a segment appeared that evening on the local news.

Chi Gamma Chapter of Sigma is planning to make this an annual event!

Have you ever felt hesitant to go to the gym or just don’t know where to start? Meet our amazing AMP fitness trainers, Coach Jess and Coach James as they offer insight on how to get started. Classes run Monday-Thursday in the Nold hall weight room. Come down tomorrow and get your fitness journey going! 🏋️‍♀️💪

It’s been a long road, but I am officially Carol-Anne Drescher, BSN! If you want to do something, do it, you will surprise yourself. I would also like to toot my own horn real quick:
✅I am graduating w no debt
✅I worked full time as a professional musician the entirety of school (and of course the whole decade between graduating w my music degree and graduating w my nursing degree)
✅I bought a house this year
✅I graduated with a 3.98 GPA (one A minus all three years)
If I’ve learned anything through this process it’s that being human is beautiful and horrific and it is an honor to care for others while they experience both ends of this spectrum. Thanks to my friends and family for your support and rooting for me to embrace all of my interests. Becoming a nurse has been life changing for me.
Fun fact: I listened to Graduate by Third Eye Blind on my way to school and clinical every single day
