the red string theory

the idea that two people who are destined to find each other are tied together by an invisible red thread that will draw them together when the time is right, regardless of the moment, place or circumstance. the string may stretch or tangle but it will never break.

inspired by my relationship and the night i met my now fiancé. when we met we talked about our upbringings and both realized how many connections we had to each other basically our whole lives despite being in two completely different cities. so many times we could've met throughout the years, being so close yet so far from each other until the night of november 28, 2025.
“i hope i never see what your face looks like goin”
i love you.

thank you celly and chris for being my models and bringing my vision to life.

Born and raised in Pomona, CA, Chris Barela (@coolinmotionnn) sat down with us to share some more about his collective, For the Core (@ftcfanzine), and his own ventures as a creative.

Q: What was your inspiration behind For the Core?
A: The inspiration behind the name is actually from a thrash band from Oxnard called Dead Heat. They have a song called To The Core and [I was] messing around with ideas and listening to that song and FTCs name was born.

Q: FTC has reached places like Chicago and Las Vegas, do you have any plans for a larger scale show outside of CA or any collaborations in the works?
A: At the moment I have no collabs but I’m trying to work on curating a show later this year focusing on 90s culture.

Q: You’ve curated shows, zines, merch lines and more. Is there anything else you’d like to add to the mix?
A: I would love to start curating classes for photography and screen printing. There are so many different ventures you can take as an artist…it’s awesome to see friends run successful businesses and it shows you can do anything you want.

Q: What’s your personal favorite camera to shoot with?
A: My favorite would be the manual Canon AE-1 I have used the past 2 years that thing is a tank. I’ve dropped it more times than I can count and it’s never given me issues!

Q: How important is it to you to not limit yourself and stay confined to one medium of art or practice?
A: It’s rooted in everything I do as a photographer and artist. I feel not sticking to one thing allows you growth as a person..[you have to] do what you love and love what you do!

This year was full of new creative endeavors, and accomplishments. I wanna thank all of you that supported me this year by getting tattooed, sharing my art or supporting the tshirts I made! I appreciate all of y’all and I hope y’all stick around this year to see all the new things I have planned. I love my job and I love tattooing all of you who allow me to permanently put my art on you.
