💜🌱 A LITTLE LOCAL HELP GOES A LONG WAY 🎉

We’re delighted to share that @poyntonsbutchers in Old Colwyn have very kindly offered to become a collection point for Nina’s FTMicroFarm Share+ vegetable boxes! 🥕🥬

A long-established family business, Poyntons have been championing quality Welsh produce and traditional family values for many years.

There’s something really special about an established family business supporting the next generation. 💜

For Nina, this means reaching more local customers, reducing delivery miles and fuel costs, and making her little venture that bit more sustainable.

And for you? Collect your £20 Share+ of seasonal vegetables and pick up something lovely for dinner while you’re there! 🥕🥩

Small businesses supporting small businesses. Families supporting families. That’s what community is all about. 🫶

A huge thank you to everyone at Poyntons for giving Nina this opportunity. It really does mean a lot!

Please join us in wishing Georgia — Nina to her friends — a very Happy 18th Birthday! 🥳💜🌱

It’s hard to believe the little girl in these photos is officially 18 today… and even harder to believe just how much she’s achieved since joining the family business.

We’re incredibly proud of the young woman she’s become — although looking back through these photos, we’re not entirely sure where those 18 years disappeared to! 😭

Happy 18th Birthday, Nina. 🥂🎂

Here’s to whatever you decide to grow next. 🌱💜

Lots of love
Team F&T 😘 xx

@nourishbyneo are doing beautiful things with our microgreens 🌱 and edible flowers 🌺 😍

Loaded bagels, avocado and feta toast, colourful breakfast bowls… everything looks so fresh and you can tell how much care goes into it.

NEO are an independent café in Rhuddlan and they’ve just launched their autumn menu 🍂 There are some seriously good-looking specials on there too — BLT stack bagels, bacon and hot honey halloumi, pastrami bagels, açai bowls and plenty of autumn drinks.

We’re always really grateful when another small business chooses to buy from us. There are far more convenient ways to source ingredients, but they make the effort to use fresh, locally grown produce because they care about what they’re putting on their customers’ plates.

That support means a lot to a little business like ours. And in return, we get to watch them take something we’ve grown and make it look a million times better than we ever could 😋🤗

If you’re in or around Rhuddlan, pop into @nourishbyneo and give them a try. Keep an eye out for our little greens and flowers while you’re there 🌱🌸

Thanks for supporting us NOURISH by NEO — and for making our produce look so amazing 💚

Sometimes the best business ideas don’t start with a business plan. They start with someone saying, “Why don’t we just try it?” 👀🌱

Nina has been hugely inspired by our recent horticulture trip and has had an idea, so we’re working hard to make it happen!

Huge thanks to Chris & Liz @thevalegrocer for their support and giving her the opportunity to make it work. 💚

Stay tuned for details on how you can support it too! 🌱💜

Horticulture Trip — 4 of 4 🌱

Our final visit of the first Bwyd o’r Tir residential took us to @castellhowell — and brought the purpose of the programme into focus.

After visiting two very different farms, this was our chance to see the other end of the supply chain. From colossal chilled storage and AI-supported picking to complex logistics and distribution, it’s difficult to do justice to the sheer scale of the operation.

Just as impressive was the culture behind it. Despite its size, their family values really shone through. To have grown to this scale while retaining the feel and values of a family-run business is something quite special.

And then there’s their commitment to getting more Welsh-grown food onto Welsh plates.

According to Castell Howell, they supply ingredients for around 850,000 school and college meals every week and are a founding partner of Welsh Veg in Schools. Food Sense Wales says that in 2026 the project is working with 20+ growers across 16 local authority areas, aiming to get around 100 tonnes of local organic vegetables into approximately 600 schools between July and December.

It really brought home why Bwyd o’r Tir matters — if we want more Welsh vegetables on Welsh plates, we need more growers producing them.

A huge thank you to @castellhowell for sponsoring the programme and welcoming us, and to @cyswlltffermio and everyone behind Bwyd o’r Tir for the opportunity. 💚

One thing our first residential reinforced is the importance of getting more locally grown food onto local plates.

Because ultimately, the more people who choose locally grown vegetables, produced naturally and with care, the more reason farmers and growers have to grow them. Demand creates opportunity — and gives Welsh horticulture room to grow. 🌱

And on that subject… perhaps not quite on the scale of supplying Castell Howell (yet 😉), a very inspired young lady has something she’d like to share with you next week… 🤩🌱💚

Horticulture Trip — 3 of 4 🌱

Day two of our Bwyd o’r Tir residential began at @glasbren, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm at Lords Park in Carmarthenshire.

Glasbren has a fascinating story. It began at Bronhaul Farm, where founder Abel Pearson grew up and developed an agroecological market garden and CSA. In 2023, Glasbren was selected by National Trust Cymru to take on the 134-acre Lords Park Farm near Llansteffan, giving them the opportunity to build on that work at a completely different scale.

We saw the CSA growing areas, farm shop, flowers, propagation and packing spaces, and learned about the volunteers, courses and community activities that form such a big part of what they do.

The amount being achieved was impressive, but so was the whole approach — producing food while connecting people with the farm, the land and where their food comes from.

It wasn’t until I got home and started showing Steve the photos that we realised we already knew Abel’s work! We’d watched videos about his previous farm on YouTube without making the connection that Nina and I had just spent the morning learning from the same grower.

A huge thank you to @glasbren for welcoming us and being so generous with your time, knowledge and experience. We came away with enormous respect for what you’ve built and what you’re creating at Lords Park. 💚

Next stop, @castellhowellfoods — and an entirely different side of Welsh food supply.
