Collage Care: The Method is away to “cast small votes…for yourself” as stated by author James Clear in Atomic Habits.

CCTM is a way to enhance your understanding of yourself…to cast a small vote for YOU!

Using CCTM you are likely able to understand yourself (and others better).

In doing so when faced with “somethings” in life your will gain trust in your responses.

In gaining a deeper understanding of how and why of emotions, feelings, and thoughts one may be able to INSERT some space before respond to a “something”.

This space is called Metacognition.

Metacognition means “thinking about your thinking” and to also add the use of key concepts of CCTM to make helpful choices.

By pausing to use your capacity to employ Metacognition, coupled with the information and practice offered in CCTM, you are more likely to be able to act like the person you aim to be.

You are therefore casting a vote for you!

An example. Say you have an interesting “something” of an awkward conversation with someone.

The feeling of “annoyed” comes upon you.

From one of the CCTM Exercise-Experiences (EEs) you learned feelings like “annoyed” are “helpers” or a “signals” to pay attention and gather information. Your feeling is not bad, but a helpful signal.

In another EE you learn to “Be You and Do Today”. In this EE you learn tools on how to aim for excellence even when encountering an awkward conversation with a person.

You will gain practical experience on how to “Do Your Day” respectfully while others may be operating in a less than optimal manner.

Using the EEs you gain skills to be your most competent self and cast a vote for yourself.

In the “Be You” EE you learn ways to extend grace to others who maybe struggling with bits that have nothing to do with you. So you cast a vote for them too!

CCTM is one way to learn how to live an optimal life, make contributions to yourself, to your goals, and to aspire to make contributions to others and the world.

On what is the sixth (6) year anniversary since we began to transcribe Collage Care: The Method™️ from an oral tradition to a written one in books we took time to reflect and ponder on the why we took on this endeavor.

With any project a person is wise to be clear about one’s motivation.

You might take this tip…if you are not aware of your motivation someone else’s motivation (agenda) may come upon you.

We think it valuable to share that in the work of building books on CCTM there is no grand agenda.

It boils down to the fact and motivation that WE CARE.

That is right WE CARE about the quality of life others are living.

A decision was made in 1973 to work with others…”to help people”, as many say.

You see this with many folks…they make a decision to help people and become nurses and teacher and so forth.

One way to maintain balance in the helping efforts is to maintain a perspective of curiosity and to stay humble.

Both keeps one from thinking they know what another person needs or how they should live their life.

This is why in the CCTM books there are so many “topics” a reader can choose from and no set expectations or path a reader is required to take.

This is what could be referred to as “emergent education”.

CCTM was originally developed and refined in an educational setting.

The last place was refined was with pregnant and parenting adult women experiencing poverty.

By using the teaching philosophy of emergent education lessons were developed based on the students’ interests rather than what I felt was needed for them to know.

What CCTM does is it compliments a readers established knowledge base to assist by offering tools, skills, knowledge, and experiences on INFORMATION the reader themself is interested in.

So in using CCTM you are invited to browse the Content section of the book, choose an Exercise-Experience that is of interest to you and to “Think, Choose, and Use” what fits for you.

Our mission and motivation is to help by instilling confidence that people know what they need. We offer more knowledge to build upon.

Let’s say you want to start a Collage Care: The Method™️ practice but you are on the fence.

You might consider a four (4) part system, some tips, from the Atomic Habits author James Clear, to get started and to stay engaged.

Special thank you to @nolan_killeen (do follow for some enthusiastic encouragement) for his sharing about this system.

Step One: Make it obvious.

Nolan, is an advocate of a written journaling process (BTW CCTM is a visual journaling system). He puts his journal in obvious places (on his bed or computer) so he can “see” it and be prompted to use his journal.

One way to do this is to set up a corner that is obvious you can see in your home for your CCTM practice. You can also make a box to hold your CCTM work that you can see. This will make it obvious.

Step Two: Make it attractive.

Basically this means in your CCTM corner make it visually interesting and inviting…a place to enjoy doing your CCTM practice.

Step Three: Make it easy.

This means to do your CCTM practice for let’s say 10 minutes rather than an entire hour. Set a timer and stop after 10 minutes.

Do this again tomorrow.

Small and steady steps add up over time. This is called Compound Interest of Habits. Says James, “1% over time adds up.” My friend says, “Little by little.”

Step Four: Make it satisfying.

CCTM is calibrated to make the experience satisfying right away. In each collage-making recipe readers are asked to start by creating a shape they prefer. Many make a triangle.

Seeing that shape glued to the substance right away is a great beginning and it ignites a tone of satisfaction which leads other pleasureful feelings.

I’ll add a Step Five. Know and believe it is it valuable. Time and time again we hear from readers that a CCTM practice helps to increase the value they experience in life by helping them to know themselves better and others too. It fortifies in what Nolan says as investing in the “infinity that lies within yourself.”

One of the reasons that Collage Care: The Method™️ can be helpful is it gives one a task to do in the middle of life’s circumstances - what we call “somethings”.

We define a “something” as a person, place, experience that presents some measurable level of difficulty or presents a challenge.

When a person experiences a “something” they are faced with a number of decisions.

In CCTM we see “challenging somethings” as an opportunity to consider new pathways and patterns.

This is because the brain is NEUROPLASTIC and can rewire itself and make new connections…especially during potent time of strain.

What CCTM does in using collage-making, other healthy ancient tools, and valuable information is it offers a PATHWAY to walk through and process the “something”.

This gives one the chance to use the trial as a chance for a NEW Beginning!

You do not have to stay in a place of on-going suffering, you can try CCTM as a new experience to get out of the perpetual strain.

CCTM takes advantage of the intensity of the “something” as an opportunity to offer new skills or to reinforce the keen tools one already has.

This is so that the reader has “things” to do when life gives one overwhelming circumstances.

When you feel as though there is nothing you can do you can turn to CCTM to provide supportive strategies while you walk through the “something”.

This way one does not have to turn to STERBs or Short Term Energy Relieving Behaviors (some really unhelpful) used from the past. Things like drinking, spending, gossiping, and so forth.

In the middle of a “something” a reader can turn to CCTM and have a structured, supportive, “thing” to do that will encourage and enhance one’s journey.

Listen for the cost of a bagel and a cup of coffee you can have at your fingertips an EBOOK that has 30 Exercise-Experiences to help you turn build refined neuropathways to help you through the “something”.

In the face of a challenge using CCTM you will have the chance to not reinforce old patterns but to plant the seeds of new, more life giving decisions.

“What the eye can see the mind and heart can remember.” - author unknown

One of the reasons that Collage Care: The Method™️ seems to be effective is it helps the brain significantly to learn new things by making something physical for one to see, touch, and so forth.

Have you ever wanted to learn new ideas and to transform your mind yet there is something that keeps it from happening.

Have you ever written yourself a note to remind you to do something and do in fact having written the note actually do remember to “do the bit” that needed to be done?

What we know about the human brain is it strongly prefers the “physical evidence” or something to see in order to believe something.

What the eyes can see physically the brain and heart can remember with greater ease.

One’s brain is calibrated to process and comprehend tangible, measurable, physical information from the environment to integrate and accept it.

In CCTM we offer information to consider in each of the Exercise-Experiences.

Intellectually a person can read this material and see its value.

In order to help one to not only receive the knowledge, but to integrate it into the working mechanisms of life, we offer a guided collage-making recipe.

This is valuable as the person MAKES something PHYSICAL they can see, and touch to help them recall the new ideas.

We say that CCTM is both process and product oriented as it also appears that for someone to comprehend information they benefit from having an EXPERIENCE or going through a process.

So in the making of a collage in a recipe a reader is EXPERIENCING making something physical the brain can see.

This end result collage is a symbolic representation of the information offered to be considered.

The making of the collage is an EXPERIENCE which helps form new mental frameworks to use from there on.

Because the collage is a PHYSICAL object that remains available to observe. It becomes part of the personal history for the memory to refer and use.

CCTM is like a visual guidepost on the journey of life to reinforce information, skills, ideas, and tools one wants to recall, reflect, and remember.

Collage Care: The Method™️ is especially designed to attune to the preferences of the brain.

See the brain is calibrated to prefer predictability.

This is mostly to achieve safety and survival.

The brain prefers what it knows in order to insure one survives by anticipating what will come next.

This is why one takes the same road home each day.

CCTM accommodates for the preference of predictability by offering information in a set formula.

This helps to prepare the brain for change that comes from learning new and useful tools, information, skills, and insights.

People recognize, know, and often experience that the only certain thing is change.

So to mitigate the risk of unknown change people aim for a known, predictable pattern.

This is because change strains the brain as it could undermine security.

This means that on a daily basis people are faced with an internal dichotomy.

Humans live with two opposing forces, the aim to have things be predictable, therefore safe, and the knowledge of certain change.

Quite by accident CCTM ended up being a system that uses a predictable, patterned information delivery method as a way to encounter change with ease.

Each mini-lesson called Exercise-Experiences (EEs) follows the same set, predictable pattern. This helps the brain to feel secure and safe.

And the EEs offer life changing information and opportunities.

There are 80 different topics (a source of change) that complement life’s paths and offers tools to learn and use.

So when one takes part in a CCTM Exercise-Experience their brain can approach it with ease like a known drive home on the same road.

With this familiar pathway one is then afforded the ability to explore, with greater ease as one encounters the “change” of exploring a topic that is “new” and “unfamiliar”.

The brain does not have to be on alert or overly aware with CCTM as it might in other circumstances because the path of the EEs is known and adequately explained.

This leaves one the extra “brain space” to explore with ease and less stress.

The design is kind, considerate, and respectful of humans.

Collage Care: The Method™️is about transformation.

Let’s talk about transformation.

It is now a buzz word, but when we use it in CCTM we see it really as about discovery.

Discovery of a skill, tool, idea, information.

The process of discovery takes place within the framework of a scaffolded CCTM Exercise-Experience.

Too often people think transforming is about becoming something or someone totally different and changed.

In CCTM it is usually about discovering, or uncovering, something that was hidden, buried, not yet revealed, or not yet known.

It is also about offering a shift or rearranging things to better suit one…this is why using collage-making is so keen (transforming magazines into something new).

Transformation is about finding a thing that was already present waiting to be unearthed.

It can also be about adding more to a known strength...a refinement of sorts.

Transformation in CCTM is usually like a soft whisper in the ear. It is not usually like a shout. It is like polishing silver.

Consider the transformation of learning to reading.

Before you knew how to do read you were a whole person who just could not yet read.

The ability was there, but the experience with tools, skills, and information on how to read had not yet happened.

The transformation of reading, or gained social fluency with CCTM, is a life-giving transformational experience.

Suddenly you can read. Transformed!

Suddenly with CCTM you have some skills and ideas of ways to avoid drama or express feelings productively. Transformed!

This is more like mining for gold (or turquoise where we live).

All humans have massively unique and profound talents that can be brought to the surface with a thoughtful experience. They can be mined with some new experiences like CCTM.

Once mined then they can be polished and used.

The experience of acquiring information, skills, and tools offered and practiced in CCTM is the polish.

CCTM is a transformational gift. It offers a path to be able to add some polishing lotion to your tool box to bring the shine to yet to be discovered or unnoticed strengths.

Here’s a question.

Coming up did you receive instruction that could be considered “sacred teachings”?

You know the kinds of teachings that would provide balance, meaning, understanding, grounding, and wisdom for how to function in life?

Did you get some coaching from a fellow human, maybe older, who passed on helpful life lessons?

If not, or the bits you received didn’t fit for you, then CCTM might be something that you could benefit from today.

Here is an example…you take on a new job.

Someone on the team to be a bit sour towards you.

Maybe they are downright set on upsetting your pace. It is hard to wonder why this happens, but it does.

From the teachings of your elders or teachers did you have a bag of tips to help you to proceed?

Do you have some tips for maneuvering this “something”?

Well…CCTM has an Exercise-Experience (EE) that considers this scenario.

It is called “Be You, Do Today”.

Each EE has components that offer some age old, helpful teachings offered in “newspaper-length” readings. You can read them in 8 minutes and have a place to begin.

They are like a short conversation with someone who has researched some universal, nearly infinite information to assist in life.

Also, included are some ancient traditions rediscovered to help to calm the mind and body when faced with a “something” like a colleague who is “below the line”.

These are “things to do” to ease your body systems when facing life puzzles.

Are the newspaper-length” readings in thr EEs the end all?

No…they are simply helpful bits to give you a sound start spot so you can continue on your life path.

Many people tell us the EEs boosted their confidence and seeded a curiosity to do further research to develop more tools for life.

There are many sociological reasons for the absence of wise sages (like family living far away or schools that focus on math).

No matter, what CCTM does is to simply offer a primer and some tips from many sources to add to your tool box of life.

CCTM is not a theory, it is a model, a method that highlights many sources offering sacred teachings to support one today.

“When things do not go your way, remember that every challenge — every adversity contains within it the seeds of opportunity and growth.

— Roy T. Bennett

Collage Care: The Method™️ (CCTM) offers tools and support to overcome the circumstances of life.

In CCTM the circumstances of life are called “somethings”.

A “something” for some are “problems”.

In CCTM we prefer to call “somethings” CHALLENGES instead of “problems”.

Note, we do acknowledge that there can be “crisis” events in life and yet we call everything else a CHALLENGE.

The subtle shift in vocabulary from “problem” to CHALLENGE helps people to focus on areas of strength.

It assists one to to see a CHALLENGE, be it adversity anticipated or not, as a growth opportunity.

There is an entire Exercise-Experience (EE) on “Seeing Problems as Challenges”.

One of the aspects of that EE is to explore a list of thirty-eight (38) benefits of this shift in terminology.

Please know that this is not “toxic positivity”.

No, this is using the brain’s capability to grow and shift even during hardships.

We acknowledge “battles” in life.

We lean into them with skills we have and aim to gain more knowledge, experience, wisdom, and insight having endured and come through the CHALLENGES.

Here are some:

+ Challenges provide a way to discover and demonstrate your personal power.

+ Challenges are “somethings” that stand outside of you. They are “somethings” that you experience. Conversely, problems can become part of your identity, and others
can see you as the problem, or as causing the problem.

+ Challenges instill a mindset of looking forward as opposed to the deficit, backwards mindset associated with problems.

+ Challenges avoid the use of discouraging language such as “poor me” or “it’s not fair”.

+ Challenges require and encourage getting support and often enlisting a team of others.

+ Challenges allow for others to give encouragement and to become encouragers.

+ Challenges stimulate the mind to use creativity to create and implement plans.

+ Challenges require one to use existing skills and to gain and practice new skills.

Collage Care: The Method™️ (CCTM) uses a variety of mechanisms and natural “preferences” of many kinds of brains.

There are number types of brain thinking processing variations.

Temple Gradin speaks of two, “visual thinkers” and “verbal thinkers” in her book.

CCTM supports both. For now let us look at “visual thinkers”.

The brain of “visual thinkers” TRANSLATE concepts and ideas into PICTURES. They CREATE visual IMAGES.

These people can see full scenes in their brains !

They prefer to learn with diagrams.

They can see an image in an instructional booklet and put together the object.

They often can create photo-symbolic, object-based images of experiences, ideas, and concepts in their minds.

They seem can identify patterns and spacial structures too doing this visually with brain images.

What CCTM does for the “visual thinker” is offers words to consider with some small about of reading and then INVITES the reader to make a picture of the word concepts using collage-making.

This MATCHES their natural brain processes assisting in learning and understanding.

The GREAT thing with the collage-making recipes in CCTM is the person THEMSELVES is making the image with common elements found in magazines or digitally.

There is no frustration with trying to draw it to make it look “real”.

This technique can make the ideas more appealing and interesting to the person as they are having a chance to express for themselves with images. This assists to review, recall, and remember the ideas!

So for a “visual thinker” their ability to comprehend the ideas and therefore put them into action is increased.

This is fantastic (!) as those who learn with words get their needs met and those who learn with images get their needs met.

Also, because the topics of CCTM offer emotional-social ideas, which can engage the person’s feeling centers, using collage-making, with the movement of the small muscles, benefits all types of thinking types. It helps everyone to “pace”, “regulate”, and “modulate” the feeling based hormones flooding the body in response to the information.

“No one can look after your inner life but you.” - John O’Donohue

What Collage Care: The Method™️ (CCTM) can offer a person is “gardening” tips to enhance the quality of one’s inner life…one’s identity!

CCTM explains internal and external influences on the garden of the mind. It offers tools to consider and to amend the impact they can have on one’s inner life.

Humans have 70,000 thoughts per day shaping their inner life. A constant conversation is taking place running automatically, like leaves growing and falling from a trees.

The quality of one’s thoughts rely on a variety of sources AND they can IMPROVE.

This is called NEUROPLASTICITY. This refers to the fact that brain can change like a garden bed tilled and replanted.

CCTM is a tool supporting and using NEUROPLASTICITY to tend to one’s inner life to enhance one’s thoughts and life experiences!

Says John O’Donohue, “We can never see another’s experience (their inner life) only their behavior.”

By investing in CCTM people have an opportunity to consider, evaluate, recalibrate, and replant their inner life. This may even improve their behavior towards yourself and others.

One of the influences on the CCTM model came from Jerre Paul PhD. She maintained that to do quality work with others depends how we “are doing”. In CCTM how one tends to themselves, how they “are doing”, including their inner life, impacts not only themselves self but others!

According to John O’Donohue, “Changing the furniture of one’s inner life can alter all.”

No two inner garden lives are the same, no two people inhabit the same inner garden world.

In CCTM we offer a model garden of your inner life. It offers some information that can possibly enhance your thinking, feelings, and behaviors.

You will find a tool box of 80 Exercise-Experience (EE) between all three (3) books to use in ways that work best for you.

Some may use the tool of contemplation, others inquiry, while other somatic activities, still others design a landscape architecture plan of one’s own with a uniquely designed collage.

CCTM uses the natural resources of NEUROPLASTICITY of the brain!
