Who is Vladimir Schuster?

From Minsk to Provincetown, Vladimir Schuster’s story is as layered as his prints.

Born in Belarus in 1953, he first stepped into the arts as a teenage cameraman before serving in the Soviet Army as a Morse code operator (and winning 2nd best in the USSR!).

After immigrating to the U.S., Vlad built a career as a master electrician turned master printer — helping countless artists bring their visions to life.

Come see this incredible body of work; and meet Vlad!

No, though it was a beautiful summer day , she is not absorbed in a beach read . it’s June 24, 2022 with the news of “Rowe v. Wade”
I still remember that afternoon working with Walker , hence “Absorbed” came to be.
Like these present days - it’s too easy to find oneself “down the rabbit’s hole”
🌞 better to feel the sun shining down on this old straw hat of mine , it’s now enjoying it’s 18th summer 🌞
It was exciting to reproduce this print from my charcoal original with @funkandschuster .
It’s their first Studio Show of all their represented artists ..
Onward and many more!

This is "Maiden Voyage" - my 1st monoprint. There are only 2 original prints left in Cape Cod and a few in Prague. Each with its own special detailing, this limited 2023 sailboat is on exhibit for the 1st time @rugosagallery in Massachusetts.🖼 Made with oil paint on Stonehenge paper (22x15 inches/ 260 grams in weight), you can see here how it was printed by @funkandschuster in Provincetown, home to America's oldest continuous art colony.🎨🤙💝📦📨🌏

✨ A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us at the opening reception for Funk & Schuster at Rugosa Gallery last Friday! ✨

Between the art, the oysters, and the overwhelming love from our Provincetown and Rugosa families, it was a celebration of creativity and community we’ll never forget. 🖼️🦪🌸🙏

Seeing decades of Vlad’s craft alongside the incredible works of so many talented artists, all exhibited together for the first time— was powerful and inspiring.

The gallery is open daily through Labor Day, and after that, by appointment.

Come experience it in person! 👀

“A friend of mine was getting rid of their printing press, and I asked Billy Evaul — the legendary white line woodblock printmaker — if he thought it was a good idea to set up a printmaking studio in Provincetown for local artists.

Billy said, ‘Sure, that’s a great idea!’

…Then he was a little shocked when I sent him a video of the presses being lifted into the studio by a crane. The machines were a lot bigger than he expected.

That was the start of Funk & Schuster.”

- From Vlad, owner & print master of Funk & Schuster:

Two lithographs created by Billy Evaul with the “big machines”

Come see them and meet the artist & print master

This Friday @rugosagallery myself along with dozens of other cape artists unveil the largest printmaking show to date by master printers @funkandschuster . Here's a selection of works I've done with Vlad and his son Sasha. Some of them are lithographs and some are monotypes. Come find out for yourself what that means and why collecting fine art printmaking is so worth it.
