UTS ENGINEERING SOCIETY x GOLDFISH & BAY | CLOSING THE GAP BETWEEN UNIVERSITY AND INDUSTRY

A great evening with UTS Engineering Society, bringing students and our engineers together for real conversations about careers, industry and life beyond university.

Thank you to everyone at UTS and our Goldfish & Bay team who made it happen. More to come.

We’ve been talking a lot about career mapping this year, and one part of it is easy to overlook: keeping track of the career you’re already building. 🗂️✨

A lot of career advice focuses on what you should do next. But sometimes, one of the best things you can do is simply keep track of what you’re already doing.

Projects, classes, internships, technical skills, people you’ve met, lessons learned, accomplishments… It’s surprisingly easy to forget how much you’ve actually done.

And those experiences can later become the stories you use in a résumé, interview, portfolio, grad school application, or even as you work toward professional licensure. 📄🎓

That’s the idea behind a Civil Engineer Career Folder 📁: one place to keep the academic evidence, experience, and career materials that grow with you.

Because career mapping isn’t just about figuring out where you’re going. It’s also about understanding what you’ve already built along the way.

What would you add to yours? 👀

They said: “Get an engineering degree, you’ll always have a good job.” 🎓

Nobody mentioned the part where every “entry-level” position wants 3–5 years of experience, 14 different software packages, and knowledge of a machine that was discontinued before you were born. 😭😂

The degree was only the tutorial. Welcome to the real game.

Tag an engineering student who needs to see this before graduation. 👀

Bro if you’re an engineering student in uni in 2026, here are 10 Instagram accounts you should be following (Part 1) — because IG isn’t just memes anymore. It’s turning into a legit resource hub: study systems, internships, project inspiration, CAD/coding tips, and real engineering career game… if you follow the right people.

Most students use Instagram to scroll. The intentional ones use it to build an edge.
Follow these:

1. @the.potential.dropout

2. @futureengineerguide

3. @betibuilt

4. @mattandmikebrothers

5. @engineeringwithpalden

6. @steph.osmak

7. @juiceditup

8. @liam.codez

9. @julianasvlog

10. @engineering girlie

Save this, send it to an eng friend, and comment “PART 2” if you want the next list (more builders + internship-focused pages).
