Melbournians! Or is it Melbouriocas? Anyway:
I got one last copy of
VOODOO MAMBOSIS AND OTHER TROPICAL DISEASES
with me, 14 tracks on colored vinyl to cure anything from fever to hangover to heartbreak with rhythm.
So if one of you feels in need of a musical remedy, hit me up, I‘ll be here at CBD for another week, and we can arrange that. At AUD 40,- it’s cheaper and longer-lasting than opium.

What a cool first day down under! Stumbled upon a record fair on my way to the Townie, an Iggy-centric dive bar in North Melbourne, and found some Aussie Garage 45s.
Who remembers Gearhead Magazine? Last time I had met head honcho Mike LaVella 27 years ago in a pool in Las Vegas, where we discussed Kraftwerk and the Scorpions. Now he was in town, and to celebrate this occasion, three local bands played at this Sunday-arvo-meet-n-greet: first up were two former Cosmic Psychos new band Spittin Chips, heavy like a psychedelic bulldozer. Next stop - put the Rezillos and the B-52s in a blender, add some motor oil, and you’ll get the highly recommended Future Primitives! And finally the Wraylettes, four female disciples of the high and mighty Link Wray, who rumbled us until we all felt Comanche. Can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday after a 34 hour trip!

Gearhead supremo Mike LaVella is heading down under to throw a shrimp (sic) on the barbie and we just couldn’t let him walk the streets of Melbourne unaccompanied so we decided to throw a party while he’s here, showcasing his love of Aussie punk rock and everything vintage about the combustion engine (hot rods & chopped muscle cars).
He’ll be bringing armfuls of Gearhead Magazines with him and shoot the s’@t with anyone who will listen!
Entertainment will be seminal, including, The Wraylettes, who will purr their way through a set of Link Wray classics, Future Primitives, featuring Matt Black of Fireballs fame, Area 7’s Dave Jackson on keys and legendary tub-thumper Dave Ross from hardcore legends, Vicious Circle and several other sonic troupes.
Completing the line up, Spitting Chips, comprising a couple of original granddaddy’s of grunge and Cosmic Psychos, Bill and Dirty!
Need we say more? Oh, it’s free and doors at 3pm until 7pm.

Strap yourselves in, rock'n'rollers - Sunday 4 October's gonna be a riot! We're stoked to be joining Spitting Chips and The Future Primitives at the Townie for an arvo of rowdy sounds in honour of Mr Gearhead himself, Mike Lavella, who'll be in town for a flying visit. It'll also be our last show before we jet off to Tokyo for a coupla amazing gigs we'll be boasting about very soon... 😎

Ok so it’s time for my monthly appreciation post. Guitarists. Broad, possibly controversial term, as I realise they’re often also lead singers, or 2nd guitar. I’ve just chosen a few from bands I’ve probably seen more than most, but apologies to all the other ace guitarists (and mates) I’ve left out 🤘

In order of appearance (promise no favouritism)…. @chrischeney23 @thelivingendaus, @tomread78 @bodyjar_official, @justinkeenan @thegosetband, @deedee_topnovil @topnovil, @isreffotbackwards @operationbigjakebosstone and @aaddskapunx, @loves_gravity @topnovil, @chuck.area7 @area7.ska, @blackasmatt @futureprimitivesband (among others), @hep28 @28daysband, @steveresignator @theresignatorsska, @cambaines @bodyjar_official, aand @chrischeney23 @thelivingendaus (again, because he’s the fuckin’ master), and last but certainly not least providing the rad soundtrack, @patdecline @thedeclinemusic 📸 🔥🔥🔥
