Encounter with the divine

I used to think
The Divine rests in church
on a Sunday.

But then I open my eyes
And the fields are bathed in gold
The mountains are carved in amber.

So I think: this is Divine.

I hear the wind in the trees
The goat bells ringing
through the hills.
And then there is silence.

And I think: this is Divine.

I feel the earth
under my feet
Damp and soft
Grateful for the rain.

I smell autumn
Even as summer lingers
just a bit more.

And I think: this is Divine.

I see the clouds
Playing hide and seek
with the mountain peaks.
I see perfectly round raindrops
on a crocus
At dawn.

I witness light
being born
Every day
in silence.

And I think: this is Divine.

I hear the passion
in someone's voice
When I listen carefully.
I see their light
shining from within them
Towards me.

And I feel: this is Divine.

Who knew the Divine was
within reach-
every day
everywhere?
In small things
In big things
In nature
In us.

Traces

What a joy to have been OF THIS PLACE for a while.

As light ever so slowly gives shape to the mountains
Every morning
I feel I am growing roots.
Or is it wings?
Or both?

Maybe belonging is a shifting state.

You can linger for a while-
however brief-
Like a blue butterfly
On a wild mint flower.
Absorbing the sun,
the scent.
Filling yourself fully
with the essence of a place.
Then fly to the next destination.
Without leaving a trace.
Apparently.

But the traces are there.
Both for the butterfly and for the flower.
They are no longer the same.

A brief encounter can change you forever.

Another day spent wandering and enjoying each other’s company as you grow into an exceptional adult. I couldn’t be more impressed. ❤️

Big news from the National Portrait Gallery (Terms & Conditions Apply)*
Ever wanted to visit the National Portrait Gallery and you found it is ONLY IN LINE??
Instead, you can come to the National Portrait Gallery of Bloorcourt at Gallery 1065 this Friday! It’s better, it’s on Bloor, the wine is in plastic cups, and I’m actually in it. Come for the “National” prestige, stay because you’re already at Dufferin and might as well have a drink.
• Where: Gallery 1065 (1065 Bloor, just east of Dufferin)
• When: This Friday, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. I’ll be there 7-9
• Vibe: High art, low pretension #torontoportrait #torontoportraits #ontarioportraits
